Do you think a man should get a vasectomy just because his wife wants it?

This topic comes up a lot in the mom groups im apart of. I see a lot of women upset and angry that their husband's won't get a vasectomy for them after their done having kids.

I personally don't think anyone should have to get any procedures done just because their partner wants it.

Just like a wife should not have to get any level of hysterectomy or tubal ligation just because he wants her to.
A marriage should be a partnership with common goals and values.
If they both determine that they want no more children then they need to come to an agreement about birth control.
My wife started using the implanon (in the arm hormone slow release device). She started to gain weight. Then she opted for the copper IUD. Effective but cramps are extra intense and she bled much more heavily.
I went to get a vasectomy.
Our escalation of options was least invasive to more invasive. I didn't want her to hit 40 years old and already be struggling with her weight. Watching her double over in pain from cramps, like never before, I couldn't let her deal with that until menopause. So I got snipped.

And I've noticed no down side to the vasectomy. It's been a relief.
Just do it on Friday and do NOTHING all weekend (wives hate this part). No exercise or heavy lifting for two weeks.

It shouldn't be a unilateral thing. It has to be talked about. But a big enough difference in opinion (e. g. mother doesn't want any more children, but husband does and insists on reproduction over adoption), it can lead to separation.

Basically, have a plan with your partner BEFORE you consider children or marriage.
