Can a guy truly be JUST friends with his ex?

My boyfriend was in a 7 year relationship (I divorced from a 12 year marriage) and he still talks to his ex daily. It didn't start out like this but I have expressed it makes me uncomfortable. He says he isn't one to throw people away and she has "no one else" yet she's engaged and pregnant with another man's child. My boyfriend says I need to trust him or it's going to hold us back from growing as a couple. My ex husband cheated on me so yes, I have trust issues and he knows this... is it too much to ask that he alter the parameters of the frequency in which they talk? I don't care if they are friends, I still check in with my ex on occasion so I get it. I hate feeling so scared and guarded all the time. I want to feel safe and I don't.

Just anecdotal but I'm friends with mine. Still game online too, met up a few times for lunch to catch up. We tried the romantic relationship and it didn't work for us. But that doesn't mean the friendship isn't sustainable. They have interesting lives, nice family, their husbands are pretty cool. We don't usually 'click' when it comes to interests, but we're adults and know how to be polite to one another and show genuine interest in what the other has to say.

I don't think I'd ever want to date any of my exs again, even if they were available. We broke up for some reason, but it wasn't bad enough to sever all ties.

i am out for lunch with my Ex wife and my sister.

i had my ex wife over at Christmas and had my girlfriend staying as well, no WW3, everyone had a laugh.

my ex wife and previous girlfriend are best friends.

A lot is down to the context on why they are an ex.

It’s possible. I’m friends with an ex-gf and we treat each other as if we were only ever platonic friends.

I dont think you can be just friends with an ex. Once their is some attraction towards someone I dont think thats being just a "friend" .
