Honestly, I wouldn't be too upset. Things happen. It is no different if I had lost something he gave me by accident. It is nothing more than that, an accident.

No need to make someone feel worse than they probably already do. I would feel awful if I lost a piece of jewelry he gave me. I know (because I have asked him about your question) that he would not be mad.

He said that he'd help me look and if it wasn't found, he wouldn't be upset and certainly wouldn't want me to be anymore upset than I would be. No reason to pile it on someone.

  what scares me is I don't know if the ring is cheap or expensive.. looking at the blue and, slightly black pattern it looks really cool (I'm sure it's definitely not cheap) I dread to imagine how, her feel. ... when he finds out it's gone...
