Boyfriend misses me, but blocks me?

Hello, I have been in a relationship with my boyfriend for awhile now and we are each others first boyfriend/girlfriend. Recently he asked to be on a break to figure out his life. He doesn't know when the break will be over, so I gave him some space. Its been two months that we have been on a break and he messaged me and told me that he misses me and asked me to wait for him to get better and I said I will wait. I told him that he needs to resolve his problem and get better. A week pass by and I called him and it went to voicemail. I assume maybe his phone is dead, so I left a text message. My text didn't get delivered, so I just wait until the night to see if he respond. He didn't respond, so I gave it another try to call him it went straight to voicemail. I tried using another phone to call him since I assume that I am blocked on my phone. with the other phone, he picked up and I can hear him changing his voice and there were some girls in the background talking as well. I assume its his cousins since he does have a lot of girl cousins. I wasn't concerned about that, but wonder why I was told that he miss me and then I get blocked. I wish to hear from people's perspectives since I am lost with this matter. thank you and I appreciate any advice to help me figure what is wrong and to have an open mind.
