I notice that as years in one's life accumulate, the definition of "a while" changes.
For instance, those in their teens and 20s might have a 2-5 year long term relationship, which is a long time relative to their age and life experience. But those who are older who have been married for 30 years have a whole nother definition of "long term relationship" that younger people can't comprehend relative to our age.
Those who are young and have worked at a place for 3 years feel they are permanent or long-term employees. Yet older people who have had more than 1 or 2 jobs will attest that being employed for that amount of time is more transitory than the young person realizes.
There are many more examples to give. So how do you define "a long time"? And how/when has this definition changed for you?
