Question about excuses?

I’ve been told that I make a lot of excuses and I want to fix that but it seems that women are the only ones that seem to call me out on it. In my job and with my friends they tend to see me as a very stand up and honest person but when it comes to my loved ones like my mom or my ex girlfriends they say all I do is make excuse when genuinely I feel like I’m explaining the facts of what happened in the situation
