Guys, what would you think if your girlfriend asked you to buy her a ring?

I have a cheap silver ring that I wear everyday on my middle finger, but I’d like a better quality ring to replace it. I asked my boyfriend if he could buy me a new silver ring for my birthday in a few months, and he joked that I wanted an engagement ring. But he didn’t seem to understand when I explained to him that I just want a new ring for my middle finger, and that I would like him to buy it for me as a gift so that everytime I look at it and wear it I’m reminded of him, and he already knows I don’t want to be married. I’m wondering if it was bad for me to ask for him to buy me a ring?

If he is the marrying type and you have said "not me," then asking him to buy you a ring - of any type - is a way of rubbing his face in it. That may not be your intent, but it would feel that way to me if I was in his position.

Different people will react in different ways. Considering you explained you wanted it for your middle finger and just wanted it as a reminder of him, I don't think it was a bad idea. I'd imagine I'd have understood (not that I'm suggesting anything negative of your boyfriend, we all misinterpret things at times).

Doesn't seem like a loaded request especially since you already had the I don't wanna get married discussion. It wouldn't hurt to tell him again you don't want to get married and are just looking for a specific ring

I think it's fine. Another way is to say "hey for my birthday I saw this ring, I want, relax it's not an engagement ring. It's jist acute ring I like"

If you got a job you can buy your own toys. Its tacky to ask for a specific thing, if your birthday comes around and he decides to do something for you, it's appropriate to accept the gesture whatever it is but if your with him for toys, well I guess thats his issue

Between $50-$140. I haven’t looked yet but plain silver rings come in that price range. I’m definitely not asking for a ring that’s hundreds or thousands of dollars.
