Living together with your partner before you get married? Good idea or bad idea?

Where do you fall on this question? i'm talking about generally here do you think its a good or bad idea to live together with your partner before getting married? or is there no clear consensus here and it truly just depends on the couples? or maybe on other factors like the culture? or religious values?

Good idea. Not that I am a fan of marriage but it's always good to live with someone to figure out if your home lifestyles are compatible. What if your partner is a complete slob? A hoarder? Bad spender? Irresponsible? So many things could ick you to the extreme

It depends on a lot of things.
However if I were a guy and I was living with my girlfriend I doubt that I'd still marry her because I already kind of have her as an acting wife. I mean I'd treat her well and do my part around the house but honestly getting married wouldn't be at the forefront of my mind.
Is the mindset questionable, yes absolutely.

So as a girl who wishes to get married before making babies, raising them & keeping up with my career living with a partner wouldn't be a good idea for me.

Overall I think it's a good idea. It's something I would do if I was in a relationship with the goal of getting married.

It's a way of seeing if two people are truly compatible. And also to see if they want the same things for the relationship.

1/ It allows you to see your partner as they are 24/7 with all their foibles and peccadilloes

2/ you can work on communication, compromise, compatability and differences

I think it's a good idea but if the goal is to be married, then there should be a decision date set when they move in together -- after a year we're either getting married or breaking up.

Depends on the couple, though I do think it’s a good idea to live together before marriage - you don’t want to marry and then find out that your new husband or wife is a hoarder, slob, or other bad characteristics.
