How can I handle overwhelming emotions and relationship challenges in High School?

I live in Brazil, so if there are any differences in the school system here compared to other places, just ask me. (Also, I'm 16 years old, not 18 or whatever shows up)

I also know what I’m about to say will sound bad, but I’ll share it anyway.

Last year, I started high school and, like many people, I fell in love (or maybe it’s just a crush, I’m not sure) with a girl who is the same age as me, however, we never had a class together and I never had a chance to have a conversation with her. This year, I had the opportunity to get to know her and we started some kind of a relationship. I could see the excitement in her eyes whenever we got to talk and spend time together, which made me think that maybe I had a chance with her, but in May, I found out that she is already in a serious relationship that has been going on for about three years. Normally, I would be able to control my emotions and move on, just as I have done before. However, this time it’s different, I can’t seem to stop feeling this way about her, no matter how hard I try.

Right now, I’m feeling really confused because I’m used to being in complete control of my emotions all the time, but now, these feelings have taken over me and I can’t stop feeling this way about her and thinking about her. It’s been challenging for me.
