Nobody Likes My Boyfriend Because He’s Older and Doesn’t Include My Kids?

I’ve been seeing a guy for 15 months. He’s 19 years older. For the most part we get along well and love each other. The problem is that due to his age he is not interested in being around my two teenagers. At all. Any time I spend with him is just him and I, refuses to be near them. We are happy living separately but my daughter was only 12 when we started dating and she’s felt the rejection the most from me spending time with him and she is excluded. My son is older - 18 soon. My boyfriend thinks my son is obnoxious and tells me I must kick him out soon! My friends do not like my boyfriend and have started socialising less with me and want me to give him the boot. We are all mothers and I do understand their point that the right partner would not be so anti my children as he’s made negative comments about them both. They also find him controlling and say it seems everything is on his terms. Admittedly he can get irate especially if he disagrees with my parenting style and will lecture me, raise his voice and be insulting and swear at me. Wondering if I should listen to them and end this. I do love him.

Well, his age isn't the issue here, but if he and your kids don't get along, I don't see why you would stay with him.

This is a common problem for single moms when they date. Most guys know this is a potential problem and don't date single moms.

Oh my goodness. Why in the hell did you stay with him if he never accepted your kids? The moment that happened I would have immediately dumped his ass. He is also not your husband or is though kids his, he needs to zip his mouth and not tell you how to parent.

We don’t live together. I probably made excuses due to his age. He’s in his early 60s now and been through the child raising years

He does not like my children at all. He won’t come to my house. I have to visit him at his house or out for dinner places but leave my kids home. He makes comments that they should live with their father
