Is it adultery if you "cheat" with an AI chatbot?

Question

According to this article,(  this woman is divorcing from her husband because she discovered him having romantic and intimate chats with an AI chatbot.  This raises the question that with AI becoming more and more advanced and responsive, is can be considered infidelity if it's with AI?  In my opinion no, after all it's just a program and not an actual living being, akin to a videogame, at least at the moment. If it advances more, to the point of self-awareness and maybe even sentience, I'd more in favor of destroying and banning such technology.

I mean... You cannot really cheat on anyone with an AI chatbot. If it was about a certain kind of robot (or even a slightly enhanced "doll"), it would be more understandable. I guess if a man engages in this kind of conversations with an AI chatbot, it might mean He's lacking human warmth from His girlfriend/wife (it's basically what women mean when they say: "He doesn't pay attention to me anymore", but in this case, the men are the victims). And while this kind of behavior is problematic in its own way, it's an important sign that the woman in this relationship might not be doing enough to keep the man happy (and it's not even always about "this" kind of intimacy, I presume).

For the, the real question is not whether something should be classified as "cheating." The legitimate question is whether this violates your partner's trust. If it is something that you must hide and can't do openly in front of your partner, then it is probably a violation of their trust.

there's a point where it's just a joke and then a point where it's actually real.

there's literally a woman out there, I think still to this day, married to an inflatable. So it really just reaches to if the person pays more attention to an AI than the real person.

It's not healthy to do, what's wrong with being with a real person, afraid they won't respond say as you want them to, compared to a bot your manipulating to telling what you want hear to boost your ego that's not real and nothing to gain from it, we have emotions feelings for a reason to experience pain loss sadness rejection, it's how we become human and be empathetic toward another, not go through life with a script already with questions answers, life is tough at times but that's what makes you resilient to have deal with overcome what ever comes your way

and cheating is about being unfaithful to the one you promised not to be, in any way it's done and hurts the spouse... well it is cheating

now, replacing an actual spouse for a script... that's just weird, lol

Yes. It's emotional cheating and it's not the same as a book because there is interaction. It doesn't matter that it's not a living being, the person who does it still gets the same areas of the brain triggered as if he/she was messaging a real person. It's 100% emotional cheating

Depends on the partner, if you can openly mention it in your relationship and your girl is fine with it then its fine. My girl was fine with it since it wasn't a real human and I mostly did it since its my hobby. She knew the bot provided nothing for me that she could and was just a hobby. We also frequently enjoyed AI together. In my case it was before the chatbot era though, was more written fiction and text adventures.

It’s one thing if she divorces him because this guy has much deeper issues going on. It’s not just the so called act of having so called adultery with a AI bot. It’s the fact he’s so taken in by this to begin with which is scary.

But I predict there is going to be a lot more of this given how advanced AI is becoming. Technology (and politics) is driving men and women further and further apart. It’s actually well beyond depressing now. It’s horrifying

In my opinion if you must hide it from your partner your cheating, on the other hand if you have discussed it and everyone is cool, then you are not.

But it’s a sign that they are interested in seeking intimacy from someone other than their partner.
it seems like it’s an excuse to get sexual gratification from someone (or something) without it technically being cheating.

Which is still a huge red flag.
