If you truly cared about someone when you were with them, should you be obligated to help them if they are an ex but desperately need it?

My ex is very, very well off. He has a high paying job, has been working since he finished high school, has a lot of investments.

We broke up about a year ago due to some disagreements about money.

In any case, I'm in serious financial issues right now - I'm going to be evicted if I can't come up with rent money and they're also about to repossess my car.

I reached out to him, for even just a loan to get me by, and he refuses to help me.

I tried to tell him that if I ever meant anything to him once, he would help me, and he won't even reply.

Do you agree that if you truly ever cared for someone, and you can afford it, you should try and help them in desperate times? My friends are split on the issue, but he just bluntly tells me "No, stop asking me for money", but I"m desperate
