Do you think that some people value the chase more than the connection?

For example, a book I found shared the data that people with magazine subscriptions read less than 10% into the magazines that get delivered to their house. They subscribe because the idea of owning a magazine is more valuable to them the actual purpose of the magazine, which is to offer them a chance to explore the knowledge and experience of others.

I remember there was a guy who spent two years trying to be my friend because he knew I hated him, and when I actually talked to him like a friend, he lost interest in ten minutes. He liked the forbidden idea more than the actual person that the idea was built on.
