From a book I am reading on how the mind works...

"The reason people who are exposed to the same external stimuli do not remember and react the same way as each other is because everyone deletes, distorts, and generalises differently based on their own metaprograms, values, beliefs, memories, and decisions."

I'll avoid defining all of that, but you can read it in "Neuro linguistic Programming for Dummies" or ask for clarification.

Question is... do you agree, that your beliefs influence how you interpret and react? It's one of the key learnings I had from believing in Christ for salvation. It's instramental in all solutions to problems asked on GAG... your pre-existing beliefs, influence the outcome.

This is fundamental to how I see things working and I find it to be true. I wonder if everyone thinks that.

It's not true no, and as it's a "for dummies" you need to understand that a lot of things are oversimplified and overgeneralised in those books. Mainly to make them easier to write.

But regarding that assertion on "stimuli" it's bullshit. Twins react very differently despite having nearly the same "metaprograms". What isn't fully understood is personality and identity in the brain and mind.

Two completely different people can have the same reaction despite being the same on nearly everything else.

I'd say its true, I have a very analytical mind when it comes to behavior including my own. And I have had spiritual experiences, so the things that stand out to me will be vastly different and the more tactical part of me will shape how I respond in highly different ways than other people. Because when confronted my tactical mind kicks in and will respond with tact, while most people will respond with pure emotion.

I mean... Beliefs are basically the source of values, and those definitely do have an impact on how Your brain works. Also, beliefs are kind of the main filters of information, especially classifying it as true/false, trustworthy/untrustworthy.

Yes 100% . And you my friend are brainwashed. Believing in invisible gods, makes look silly. And then your thoughts are controlled by old scriptures written by people who were definitely high on something. Religions make you racist, evil, stubborn. They cause violence, wars. The world would be a better place without religions.

Well as you indicated in the details we don't perceive the world as it necessarily is, but as our brain interprets it to be. I guess that's how some people view Trump as a saviour and others view him as a very naughty boy.
