Why does the date of Easter Sunday change every year?

Easter Sunday is celebrated by Christians as the day that Jesus rose from the dead after his Crucifixion, which is celebrated on Good Friday.

In 2025, Easter Sunday is on April 20, but it's not always on that date.

A complex formula is used to determine the date of each Easter, which can be as early as March 22 and as late as April 25.

Do you know what that formula is?

Please don't look it up, use your own knowledge.

As some have pointed out, Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox.
The Earth 's orbit around the sun is not 100% regular, so the Spring Equinox can vary by a few days from year to year, and the moon's orbit around the Earth is not synchronized to the Earth's orbit around the sun, meaning the full moon can also vary. Put all that together, and Easter's date changes every year.
