Feminism is a movement that supports (by women most of the times) gender equality.

By definition:

The belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes.

Sadly though for our generation, it has taken a new dissapointing turn. Feminism is not about saying women are better than men. Feminism is actually supposed to help men too. If you look at the exact definition it's about gender equality, not females being superiors to males.

What does that mean?

It means that feminism supports also men, not only women.

For example, gender equality is as well:

Men being able to express their feelings like girls are and not being called names or offensive things just because they are more emotional than others.

Yes, women should be treated the same way as men, but what you don't understand is that men should actually as well be treated equally as women.

Males and females should be equal but you have to accept that they are different.

Yet, sadly, only real feminists actually consider and accept this part of the definition.

What's the difference between the fake and the real feminist?

Real feminists believe in equality, they won't offend innocent men, they will not try to start a fight with every male around, they have respect towards themselves and others no matter what their gender is.

Fake feminists on the other side just plain hate men for whatever reason, they will provoke men non-stop even if they did nothing to them just because they have male body parts. Some women that do specific things against society's standards, identify themselves as feminists.

You think by not shaving your body hair you are a feminist?

You are not.

You think by not allowing a man pay on a date you are a feminist?

You are not.

You think by hating men for who they are and what they have succeed in their life you are a feminist?

You are not.

You think that by hating male body parts you are a feminist?

You are not.

You think that by cutting your hair short and wear baggy clothes you are a feminist?

You.Are.Not.

If you want to do one or all of these things, it's your personal choice. But don't hide behind feminism. No one ever said that feminists are supposed to look or behave a specific way.

Someone finally said it! I used to be a feminist, but with what being a feminist nowadays means I stopped being one, because I didn't like how the movement was being catered. Yes it’s true that there is a difference between feminism and misandry but Men’s rights and feminism are two separate causes and should be treated as such. Well, I guess I have said this before. We all know what feminism is and what it is not. The MGTOW, anti-PC crowd at GaG knows what the goals should be for humanity, but instead of working for equity, opportunity and freedom for all, they simply think up reasons to stand in the way. So explaining to them what feminism actually is won't work. Trying to get them to use empathy won't work. Trying to get them to see how more freedom and opportunity for everyone only guarantees them that their rights won't be taken away won't work.

Its funny when you think about the points they make. Because they definitely would not want to be apart of a group that has never had a President that was their gender. The other part of their argument has to do with attitude. So they pick the women with the worst attitudes, with the worst behaviors and proclaim these women are the standards all feminists should be judged by.

I think when you realize they are not trying to debate, that they do not even have similar goals as you, then you realize that it isn't about facts or logic. They will bend the very laws of physics to try to maintain their views on order. Their very definition of themselves is dependent upon a relationship with other groups that places them at the center or in the position of the most power. Without that dynamic, they don't seem to know where they belong or where they fit.

I would large agree though I have 2 qualms.

1. The goal of "True Feminism" is to promote equality between the genders yet the title is inherently bias towards the feminine. There are ways in which men may be seen as favored but there are also many ways in which woman are far favored over men. I feel there ought to be a better term to describe the group or movement.

2. I don't agree that men and women ough to be treated the same. At least not exactly. Equal respect ought to be given certainly, but recognizing differences ought to result in different responses to said differences. As an example... a good boyfriend, when he recognizes that his girl is in the middle of her period he acts more sincerely and tries to be extra sweet towards her. He recognizes what's different and adapts accordingly. Men and women have different needs and thus in certain regads ought to be treated differently. Still as equals, but with differences. My views are largely utilitarian in nature. I think the biological differences between men and women make men better soldiers. The way the male body develops muscles and the places in which said muscles develop simply give them a better standard point of physical fitness making them better protectors and defenders. Because I think that leaders have a responsibility to protect those under their authority I think, generally speaking that men often make better leaders. However, men are not as socially skilled or morally sensitive as women. The female body produces hormones in greater amounts. This tends to make women far more empathetic than men which is often needed for a proper balance in society. Justice must be tempered with mercy. The law must be take into account more than mere logic and thus men cannot lead well without women as well. We each have different skills as individuals and different general skills as groups. We ought to embrace those and we ought to interact with different people differently. That's my view at any rate. Again excelled take and well put. I agree with it as a general rule.

Part of the reason people oppose femininism is that we don't see them fighting for equality, and allow me to explain.

We don't see feminists fighting for equality. Yes some will verbally acknowledge issues where men are disadvantaged, but as far as taking any meaningful action, they don't. The action is exclusively reserved for areas where women are disadvantaged. Actions always speak louder than words, and their actions clearly show that they couldn't care less about men. If your goal is "Equality", then you must fight disadvantages for men as well as women. Not just for women. Again, there is a difference between lip service and action. When they do something meaningful for men (Such as abolishing laws which require men to pay for children that were PROVEN not to be theirs) then I'll accept that they actually want equality and aren't just looking out exclusively for women. If you're just trying to fix women's issues, then be honest and just say that. But don't act like you're fighting for equality, because there are two sides of that coin.

Another part is the deliberate misleading people about things like the gender pay gap. The gap is not due to discrimination, but rather is a natural consequence of the different choices women make on average. Feminists will then blame society, but is the woman free to make her own choices with her life or not? Society tells me all sorts of things I ignore. Being pressured is not the same thing as being oppressed, or having actual laws stopping you, sorry.

Feminism also has this really weird battle with itself. Empower women and give them equality. Okay, sure, great. But then if those women use their freedom to do something feminists don't like, essentially any job based primarily on physical appearance, feminists then oppose them, shame them, and actively try to get those jobs destroyed. Is the female who Wants to work in the sex industry, and makes six figures a year oppressed or empowered? When a woman has a career she loves, and it allows her to provide for herself an her kid, and is honest work... feminists really come off as the villains here. It's little more than the politics of envy.

Maybe one day feminism will get fixed, women will be expected to be responsible for their choices, and there can finally be actual equality.

Honestly I think 3rd wave feminism has caused irreparable harm and our country's days are numbered.

It's a very simple exercise to do and I have done it for as long as I can remember. All it involves is one to stop for just a few seconds and think "I am about to take this action. Would I appreciate that person doing the same to me?"

If yes, then proceed. If no, then maybe don't do that.

It's very simple yet can have a profound impact on the people and the world around you especially when there are more people doing it.

People need to stop wasting time on definitions and wasting time on what narrow movement they identify with and actually start taking action in their lives by treating everyone with respect, regardless of gender, orientation, race, age, beliefs or anything else for that matter.

All of those things are their own just as they are your own. Nobody should have to defend or protect those things that make them you, nor should they be used against you.

"Real" Feminism is dead. Second wave feminists killed it when they violantly attacked and slandered the Men's Rights Movement in the 1970s. Yes, this shit goes back THAT far.

Feminism became slanderous when it started to idealise the idea of a career women, and not the choice to become one, or not to. It became a nuisence when it started creating made up problems to justify its own existence. It became a menace when its most radical elements basically became mainstream.

I can preach about what the REAL National Socialism, the REAL Communism, or the REAL anything is about. The fact remains that the name is tainted. The name of feminism is tainted and heavy with burden, and at this point, to people who have given this issue more time than the average Joe or Jane, the idea of a "true" feminist is no less distant and unrealistic than that of a "true" communism or nazism. It doesn't matter if you are a good person, and you call yourself a feminist, just like me being a good person and calling myself a nazi doesn't reflect good on me.

Only YOU can look out for your own reputation. Don't associate with a name that is tainted by stupid radicals as long as there are better alternatives.

Another important thing to remember from the example of feminism is that impartial advocacy groups don't exist. Anyone tryinh to capitalise on equality will somewhere down the line become obsolete. And at that point, they will usually make the choice to find a scapegoat - a windmill to fight. This is why it is important that if we want equality, we either have to do it in a meritocratic way, or through social principles.

Err... I dunno. Like, I appreciate you taking feminism to task for hating on men. But the root problem with feminism is deeper. Feminism is all good and well if it regards getting equal rights and opportunities for women.

But honestly, the moment it starts developing "theories" and talking about men in general, it just ends up looking foolish.

Case in point: As a man, no I don't believe in 100% equality. Why? Because men and women are different, and however much we pretend that isn't the case, it just is. Men don't get pregnant. One of the criticisms I make of feminists who talk about radical feminism is, if that is not real feminism then why are you telling us that, tell those radical feminists that. And you've directly done that here kudos to you.

However I wouldn't say even moderate feminism is not that far ideologically from radical feminism. Modern feminism has become a political movement. those are ABSOLUTELY feminists. They're protesting laws that allow for punishment of women based on what they wear. The Islamic world has areas that punish showing hair or legs or even eyes. It is oppressive, and sometimes you have to be dramatic to get the world to listen to you. It is the whole "ask for a yard to get an inch" strategy that unfortunately works very well in negotiations.

Also, you should read more into the "pink tax" that women suffer. 2 of your items were hating on women trying to escape that pink tax.

Marie Curie was a physicist and chemist; not a physician.

But, yeah. She was brilliant. Reading about her (and her husband's) contributions to science was among the things that influenced me to study chemistry in college, and focus on physical chemistry specifically.

I agreed with you right up until you started telling people with certain physical characteristics that they are invalid. Having a shaved head and hairy legs has nothing to do with whether or not they are real feminists. I know plenty of women who conform to beauty standards and still treat men like garbage.

Also, “they won't offend innocent men, they will not try to start a fight with every male around” this is bullshit. No man is fully innocent and neither is any woman. We ALL must take accountability because we are all of the same race. Some of us are shittier than the others but it is all of our responsibilities to create equality.

Very much agree. Marie Curie was a well respected scientist in her field as well as a wife and mother. I also agree with Salesforce and Mark Benioff that the pay gap between men and women should be closed. If they are doing the SAME JOB, they should be paid the SAME. That is at the heart of feminism. Not hating men, destroying powerful men, or other male bashing. If a woman tries to use her position. To have sex with someone reporting to her, what should happen?
