Technology Addiction

From 2 conversations I had today with 2 GAGers I would like to bring more awareness to this huge matter that we have to deal with on a daily basis.

Our social and family lives these days are all centered around technology but what people don't realize is how much it truly effects their lives including their social lives. It's really difficut to talk to most people because of their addiction, they can't leave the latest swanky iPhones or smart phones at home, they are always checking their Facebook, Instagrams, Twitter etc... All of the most popular social media websites, waiting for the next like, the next photo, the next comment, the next text... because they are addicted to that rush.

How are we supposed to socialize when technology is constant barrier between people?

I've found myself with no social life because my addiction is no where as near as bad as others. I was born in 1990 so computers didn't exist until I was around 7 years old. I was out playing. I actually had friends. People my age ACTUALLY wanted to socialize with me and be my friends but now... Friendship is non existent because I feel I can't talk to people without feeling they aren't really paying attention. They are always texting and checking social media websites. If you try to tell them they get "offended" and try to say your "spoiling their fun" when you're only trying to make them realize their addiction is effecting their social life, your friendship, whatever friendship is left because the damage is already done... They already choose their addiction for technology even over their "friends".

It also has a huge impact especially on families. People can no longer deal with day-to-day stresses because of the effects of the addiction on their minds. I see it all the time (including with my own family), how it can break families apart.

My parents rarely pay attention when I ask them to because my mother is ether watching the TV or my dad has his headphones on playing a game or binge watching programmes. Sadly my addiction is also binge watching programmes; I watch 10 programmes in total so far... 6 of them is on from autumn until spring, sometimes I forget which is on though but still... I'm really addicted.

However, I can go away on holiday for 2 weeks or outside and not feel I need to go on technology or on the internet. I have very little withdrawal symptoms, however the effects from long term exposure makes me very mind numb and I don't feel like saying much... The damage is already done... Me and my family don't get on much any more ether because of technology. My parents would rather have me and my brothers PCs look after us than them socializing with us.

Even when it comes to online bullying the main factor of people being bullied online is that they cannot put their laptop away. They can't stop looking at what the next hateful private message or comment their bullies posted because they love the rush of recieveing the next PM or comment despite knowing how upset and depressed it will make them...

This addiction takes over all logical reasoning within the brain. Indeed it's all very worrying and I wish boundaries were put in place for all humans for technology.

If you are a parent of younger children don't allow them any more than 2 - 3 hours a day but no internet except YouTube (where there is educational videos for them), or buy them educational games. Don't alow them to be exposed to it at a very young age because of the long term effects it will have on their minds. Be a responsible parent and limit their interaction with technology, keep these limitations through out their lives to allow them to grow and learn.

This video blow is the main thing that inspired me to write my own Take on it because it's a really big eye opener to how exactly technology effects the mind and the body. Worst part is the research was done in the 1980s... Yet still the technology we have today was aloud to be released publicly on a wide scale.
