How can I find out if my dance partner likes me without making things awkward?

I do ballroom dancing and my partner is a year older than me and goes to a different school. Monday-Friday I live at my boarding school but come home Tuesdays for dance lessons. I really like him and I know him quite well. I want to know how I can ask him without making things awkward if he says no or whether that isn't possible.

You could ask casually ask him to hang out after dance practice one day. If he says yes then you go do something( get ice cream, grab a burger, walk around town). Remember its not a date but If you have a good time and he's interested then he will already be comfortable asking you to hang out. If he says no then no harm done, maybe try again the next week.
