Should fake guns be banned for kids?

I had tons of them growing up. When I was a teenager we’d go to Kay-Bee Toys at the mall and by these guns that fired plastic pellets and we’d be running around the mall all Saturday night shooting at each other, and probably hitting bystanders too but we were knuckleheads and didn’t give a fuck😂 I feel like that’s some shit that was pretty innocuous in 1994 that people would have a shit-fit about in 2019 lmao. I’m definitely glad my young and stupid years were back then and not now, the 21st century is not fun at all, too many fucking rules and pearl-clutchers and naysayers... everybody out here hatin’ haha. And for the record, I’ve never owned a real gun in my life, so it’s not like it was a bad influence on me or anything.
*buy these guns
I think it depends. If there are guns like on the picture, then I would say yes, they should be banned. Guns with fake bullets in them can cause bruises and damage to people and animals. If the toys doesn't have any fake bullets in them and are labeled as a toy, then it's fine because of they cause less harm. Water guns are also fine. I still think parents should watch their children and teach them safety.
I think fake guns that look like real guns are a bad idea, especially with stuff that has happened where people can get shot because others think they're holding a real gun and acting threatening. I don't have a moral problem with toy guns though, kids will just make their own out of their fingers or sticks if adults refuse access to actual toy guns, that's what me and my siblings did. My parents were very proud of the fact they didn't ever give us toy weapons, until they realized we were playing improvised hunger games with sticks as makeshift knives and guns. I think BB guns are also fairly harmless, as long as the child is old enough to be responsible and safe with it
Yes, if it's a "fake gun".
No if it's a "toy gun".
Fake guns has been proven to be detrimental to the kids safety and others. Worst is you can't determine the fake and real ones for how they're so alike so it's only reasonable to ban them on the market.
The downside is - denying boys the liberty to have access to things they are passionate about will only make them curious and interested that they will try to find it elsewhere where you cannot regulate them. So good parental guidance in regards to orientating kids about guns in general is a must.
Thanks for the mho... ❤😊
Yes, especially if the guns look real and they constantly play with them, they might think it would be even cooler to play with a real one. But it's the same with video games, so much violence in there and I think if they are constantly in that world it can affect how they see the outside world. But none of that will change. More realistic toy guns will be given to little children and more violent video games are being made everyday.
No, toy guns are a lot of fun and I will fight anyone who will try to take away my Nerf gun. Though I agree that tpy gund should not be made to look exactly like the real deal but should be easily distinguishable.

There have been incidents in the uk where police have shot adults brandishing realistic looking guns. It stands to reason that with all the stand your ground, trigger happy gun nuts in America anything more than a bright pink water pistol is a disaster waiting to happen.
You will not disarm us.
Have there really been any incidents in the uk where police have shot adults brandishing realistic looking guns? I don't remember any.
Looking around, I came across the case of Mark Duggan, but his was a blank-firing replica of a Beretta 92 converted to fire live rounds, not exactly a toy. Any others?
I mean, here are the numbers of police firing weapons (not necessarily hitting anyone) in England and Wales, 41 times over eight years:
This guy had a toy gun, but he wasn't shot...
www.thesun.co.uk/.../
OK, I found a list. Four times since 2000, all replicas, rather than toy guns.
en.wikipedia.org/.../List_of_people_killed_by_law_enforcement_officers_in_the_United_Kingdom
Wow you have been busy.
God I'm glad I dont live UK. Id probably get arrested every time I dissagree with one of you nuts...
BB guns? I had one as a young kid, it was a lot of fun. They're fine provided there is parental supervision.
If we're talking about the completely fake ones that just make noise, no. They've got an orange tip, majority of them look pretty fake. I also had them as a kid and I didn't become a violent person or anything.
No.
Banning toy guns is designed to indoctrinate children, to make them fear guns and think guns are bad. It's part of the overall long-term Gun Control agenda of turning a majority of the population against second amendment rights. Schools already use intimidation against students who support second amendment rights.
No, and kids should be taught how to safely use real guns from a young age. I was.
No. But do think it would be cool if war was a little less heavily marketed to teens and young adults. Why can't game publishers publish a few more games NOT about being a gruff military man killing people? Same goes for movies.
It's not so much the violence, it's more the mindless, uncreative comfort-zoney way the entertainment industry churns it out.
There's always haters for people letting their kids have guns. Just because there are psychopaths who kill people, does that mean I shouldn't teach my kids gun safety or how to hunt? People tell dirty jokes but I don't keep my kids from talking and laughing.
I think we should stop trying to bubble wrap kids.
The entire point of play is to allow kids to let their imagination run wild.
What if a love of shooting toy guns takes a kid to a future in the police force, park service or army. Are those jobs no longer needed by society?
I bet you want your local SWAT team shooter to be passionate about what he does when it's your ass on the line.
So let kids figure out themselves what they like in this world and encourage them to do what interests them, safely.
Toys are toys ffs, and liberals need to get that through their empty heads too. I’d happily buy my kids toy guns; I’d rather give them that than my electronic devices to feed their tech addiction early like the lazy parents 🤦🏻♂️ And due to strict gun laws in my country, I doubt toy guns would be consequential in making my kids potential mass shooters 🔫
ANYTHING THAT EVEN LOOKS LIKE A WEAPON OR COULD HARM ANYONE SHOULD BE BAND FROM STORES , TOY STORES AND CHILDREN TOO SEE OR BUY , EVEN AT HOME ! NO CHILD SOULD BE AROUND ANY WEAPONS OR ANYTHING THAT COULD HARM ANYONE OR ANYTHING
Great plan. Say, what are we gonna teach them to write with after we ban pencils?

There's not an object in this universe that can't be used as a weapon. There are no dangerous weapons, only dangerous people.
I like your sarcasm.
Hmm, fake guns, squirt guns, etc. have been banned in schools for a long time in some states, yet those states have more shootings by kids. Banning those toys is just some BS that liberals come up with that accomplishes nothing. They like doing useless things while pretending like they are trying to help.
No, I feel it taps into a wider issue of overprotecting children. Raising a generation averse to Adventure, Danger, Risk-taking and Discovery.
Now they demand "safe spaces" 🤪 and the children can't have a toy gun or play cowboys and Indians, cops and robbers 🙄.
It is just some innocence fun. You don't need to encourage the use of toy guns but shouldn't panic or punish your child showing an interest.
"Fake guns" are either solid orange or have a bright orange ring around the end of the muzzle. Toy guns are. well, toy guns. Banning either would not in the best interest of anyone, particularly those who want to train their kids in the proper, respectful use of guns.
Our society has kids being banned from school because they play "good guy, bad guy" at recess and point their finger at someone else and "shoot" them. Perhaps the next step will be banning the use of fingers?
Sure, I don't really care but as long as they have the orange tip, it isn't necessary.
I didn't know people actually bothered to go through the trouble 😅
No it shouldn't be banned. One it's a toy and too it can be used to teach proper gun safety. For those who have guns or hunt or come from hunting families. You know and teach the importance of safety
Let's quit trying to ban everything in site it's just a toy
Kids of all ages should be taught what to do if they encounter a gun. Even how to make one safe or how to safely take it to the police, if they can't leave it lay where it is.
To ban the fake and toy guns, maybe Hollywood needs to rethink what they are making movies of.
Wouldn't surprise me if some of they actors would be anti-gun and are filling their pockets by being the bad guy with the gun.
Yes, if they look like the real thing. It can cause confusion and put the kid at risk
No but they should have red tips. BB guns should be age restrictive with harsh penalties for misuse.
No. They just need to be easily distinguishable as toys. The old orange barrel tip works pretty well. If you start banning guns are toys, kids are going to want them even more. Banning things makes them attractive. It makes them dark and sexy. It makes people want to know what all the fuss is about. The more you ban, the more people want it.
Yes, guns are not toys, even when they are fake. I want my children to play with positive things, like Legos.
Do we stop giving kids condoms too? I mean guns obviously kill people and condoms reduce the chance of aborted fetuses... Like... Geez, ban grenade colored water balloons and need guns too... It's a game for effin *****
No. They're fake. They can't kill you, so that solves absolutely nothing. Here's something productive, and beneficial in the long-term for your kid and the society he or she is in: teach the kid how to use the real thing for self defense and what not to do with it at an early age.
Of course, this bit of common sense will continue to fall on deaf ears to modern americans.
not so sure a ban is needed but parental choice is enough and i would certainly never give toy guns to kids to play with. i should point out im not American so its not part of my culture
My dad bought my brother and I every toy gun we wanted. We had a full box of them. Eventually we were tired of guns and moved on. Weren't violent or big on guns as adults. He later explained that was the plan. Denying kids toy guns will only make them more interested in them. Let kids be kids and play cops and robbers, and teach them to be kind to eachother.
Demonizing a toy isn't a way to discourage kids from violence. Even if the existence of guns were eradicated from the universe people would still have violence in one way or another.
No, that's a non issue. Toy guns, violent video games and violent movies don't attribute to gun violence. Poorly raised, mental health, being dumb and having an easy access to a real gun causes gun violence.
they might as well. They've already banned "finger guns". haha. People getting arrested, suspended, whatever for pointing their god damn fingers at people. Obviously the gun-fearing pussies have missed a step. Should have banned toy guns first. Finger guns second. Morons can't even get that right.
If the toy guns can shoot out pellets that can harm someone
yes they should be banned.
No, we have a mental health problem. And society calling young, disaffected, downtrodden males losers over and over again probably isn't helping.
But I suppose the schadenfreude is worth the occasional mass shooting.
Nope.
I wouldn't let my kids have them. Either for pretending to kill people, or animals. I don't get how people think it's okay to pretend to kill a person.
I don't get how some think it's okay to limit the freedoms of others due to projecting their own inability to differentiate between the real and unreal.
I'm guessing you've never watched a violent movie?
No, and at least where I'm at anything remotely resembling a real firearm is required to have a blaze orange tip.
They should be used to train gun safety in schools. I think if school trained gun safety we wouldn't have so many issues with gun violence in schools.
Its harmless toys and I am pro gun anyway
Stupid people should be banned.
no cause then theyll ban lazer tag
No thats ridiculous. I have been around guns real and fake since I was 4. My father taught me how to shoot, gun safety etc. I've had GI Joes and toy guns since as far back as I can remember. Guns are not the enemy.
Why not fake sword, shields, bow and arrows. All tools of war.
I kinda thought they were banned.. I don't see them in the shops anymore
They do have nerf guns that are pretty much everywhere in shops
That's a pretty sorta gun.. not like the real ones.. Which they use to have back in the days
Even super soaker guns as well
a lot of these foam flinging dart guns are in a lot of shops including Walmart these days
They're fine.. But seriously there use to be fake real ones!
Plus the Lazer tag guns are also in a lot of places but you're probably not going to find the real thing but it's common
I've never actually seen replicas in a shop but I've only ever seen the toy ones
Yeah it's a good thing!
But cap guns are sort of real fake guns but usually they are in dollar stores but I don't really come across any unless I actually go look for them but they sort of sound sort of like a real gun because of the gun powder in the caps but they really uncommon to find in major places but only places where they usually are in is really only the dollar shops but pretty much they are really uncommon in major places.
They're*
Interesting 👍
Maybe, but that should strictly be the parent's choice. I wouldn't suggest it. They should have orange tips though, because it is nigh impossible to distinguish between a well-made toy Glock and a real one.
No. They need to promote good gun knowledge & respect. I had toy guns as a child & I was taught to treat it like the real thing, & one time I didn't & I got punished for it by having the toy thrown away.
Now I have a great respect for all weapons.
They’re fine if they are neon green like water guns and not realistic looking
Only if the plan is to raise weak girlymen who cannot resist a tyrannical government and/or fight a war.
If you live in a city full of retarded people scared of their own shadows: yes
My grandson was denied guns for political correctness reasons. Stopped when he was found clutching his sister's Sindy doll, bent at the waist, as a gun substitute.
yes!! the police may see them and shoot them dead... oh, that's only black children? I see...
Lol wow look how many guys who said no, probably thinking "no i wanna have fun with my fake gun i need it>:( all these grown men being extremely stupid and immature about it i guess
You worry me.
I know a boy who got expelled for talking a toy gun to school hahah
Taking***
YES. That and overly violent video games. I’m so glad I have a daughter on the way and not a son
My kids were not permitted to own toy guns. I did teach them how to shoot and respect real guns.
I can understand the concern but also teaching respect for weapons or harmful objects isn't a bad lesson to instill early
Hell we grew up playing cowboys and indians and army. Even had bb gun fights. We turned out just great.
It's dumb as hell, if you think about it. Toy replicas of devices that are made to kill, to sell to kids
Banning it just makes it more popular and draws a line between kids with "cool parents" who ignore age restrictions and "squares" who have to follow the rules.
Banning fake guns for children... how about banning real guns for adults too?
My friends and I all grew up with fake guns and none of us have shot anyone... the issue is with black gangs, half of all murders are by blacks and yet they are only 13% of the population.
In that situation, it's probably better to have toy guns. Those guys just want to be safe.

Not at all. If they are fake, they are not real, regardless of what they are trying to emulate or depict.
Why. When I was a kid. we weren't allowed fake guns... so we made our own with wooden blocks and played with that
No, but I do think respect and safty for firearms should be more widely taught to kids and adults alike.
no as long as parents teach them it's not nice to point at people
