Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yEvery time someone thinks, “Well look at how she’s dressed/where she was/how late it was; she was asking for it!”
Whenever a college, the military, a company, etc. wants to keep sexual assault quiet to avoid bad press instead of facilitating justice.
Telling women how to behave to avoid rape instead teaching all children about consent as part of comprehensive sex education.
These are all evidence of rape culture and it’s all around and in the news. So denying it is either extremely ignorant or willfully perpetuating it.04 Reply
Asker+1 yThank you so much.
Opinion Owner+1 yFor a long time, I didn’t get it either.
The term comes off as contentious and in-your-face. That’s most likely on purpose to draw attention to the issue. But it has the unfortunate side effect of making it easy for a man, even one who is a would-be ally, to go on the defensive. The visceral reaction is to think, “I wouldn’t rape. Plus it’s illegal. So WTF?”
Unless you open your mind and put yourself in the shoes of women, you’re not going to get it. It is absolutely absurd that teaching consent is not prioritized, and that the next best alternative is teaching women to modify their movements, their schedules, their demeanor, and their dress to avoid a heinous crime that the other half of the population rarely, if ever, fears. And then blaming them if they don’t.
The term itself does have a marketing problem. But it’s discouraging that apparently so few men would invest the moment it takes to consider what kind of unfairness is faced by their moms, SOs, sisters, daughters, and friends.
Opinion Owner+1 y…and what a few changes could do to make a big improvement.
Opinion Owner+1 yThank you for mho

Your question would be MUCH more meaningful if you defined "rape culture" (as suggested by @FakeName123) and gave a few examples.22 Reply
Asker+1 yJust say you don't know what it is. It would be more simple.
- +1 y
But that is not the truth. The term you use has different meanings to different people and it does not have any one generally accepted definition. No, I'M not stupid. I just don't know what YOU mean when you use that expression.
Because women , have never been and really stuggle with being proactive about her role during the assault and after. Being raped is definitely the worst thing you’re likely to experience and in my mind even if I couldn’t prevent it I sure as hell would try making it as difficult as possible the whole time and as soon as it ended bring driven by fury force myself to exact swift violent revenge , make his exit as loud and attention grabbing and shaming as possible for others to help and anything that could I D them. Then as quickly as possible take myself and every single bit of their putrid DNA and detritus and injuries they left me with to the hospital then cops with my head held high say I was raped I need help and I want justice. But it never is like that is it. I know not all assaults are the same but mostly they are I went limp , wanted it to be over, I was helpless, I felt dirty, I was ashamed, I just went home, no one came to help, I didn’t think they would believe me. I washed his filth off with hottest water possible. I never went to the police/hospital, or this insanity, I was raped 6 years ago can I make a statement. But my point is this... rape culture is very real, very serious but needs to be brought out of the shadows by the victims and the stand they make for themselves and others as soon as it happens. dragging your violated husk to redemption fuelled by pure fury. And Only then Will people have their eyes opened and left with no doubt that this culture is real it’s evil and it is totally unacceptable to say nothing , do nothing when it happens and very quickly needs everyone to get on board with protecting the vulnerable, never being afraid to speak up and change the culture to , you/I was fuckin raped what the fuck can I /we do about this

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yI'm speaking as someone from the United States. In order for rape culture to exist, society as a majority would have to condone and approve of the act of rape. the United States does not condone, endorse, approve or embrace rape as a society. That's why there are strict laws against it, the crime is stigmatized in every walk of life (even prison) and extensive services for victims exist. If a rape culture did exist in the United States, it would not be against the law, there would be no sex offender registry, people would have no problem living next door to sex offenders and victims would not have access to recourse or services.
10 Reply1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Because a vast majority of the rape cases aren't solved because people don't speak up in time. I am sorry for anyone who has been raped, but if you wait for years than what you say more than likely won't do you any good in court. You need evidence that people can see in order for you to go to court. Everyone knows that people lie, so how can we know your telling the truth unless we have evidence. Rape culture means we allow rape but we don't. Most men don't want women to get hurt, however if women decide now to follow our advice by using protection and keeping a look out than they may get hurt. I am sorry but there are always going to be threats, some may even be people. Sadly this is how the world works, but all you can do is survive, stay focus, stay postive and if you believe in God, stay faithful to him. I feel like all we can do is be there to support the victims if they are telling the truth otherwise we can't do anything without evidence

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yBecause it doesn't. It's pretty straightforward.
The only people who live in a rape culture are prisoners or sex traffickers or something like that, basically it's among criminals. It's not something that's part of normal society. So no, it's not this pervasive problem feminists like to make it out to be, it's nonsense.010 Reply
Asker+1 yIn your dreams.
Opinion Owner+1 yWell you can't prove that there's a rape culture, so no, this is reality and you need to come to terms with that. As much as you would like to be, you're not a victim of it, because it's not real.
Asker+1 yOf course I can. But it wasn’t my question.
Opinion Owner+1 yIt's a premise of your question. Being unable to demonstrate it directly translates to your question being faulty.
Asker+1 yIt translates to me falsy believing people are independent enough to do their own research.
Opinion Owner+1 yThey do, and they find that it's not real. So again, the question remains faulty.
If you disagree with people noticing that it's make-believe, then you would have to provide argumentation to sway them.
Asker+1 yWhat a good way to answer without answering lol
Opinion Owner+1 yWell, there's no *good* way to answer like that. Needing to answer just for it's own sake without making a point typically undermines the positions you're arguing for.
Asker+1 yNo. It's a matter of logic. You answer the right question not an other. How did you do during exams lol?
Opinion Owner+1 yThe difference about exams is they ask about real things.
But even so, this isn't an exam, it's an argument. When you make a point in an argument it's built on premises which have to endure criticism and be backed up in order to be granted. Trying to get people to operate on your framework without being granted your premises is sophistry.
If your question would be on an exam it would be a *trick question* and I already answered it accordingly.

Asker+1 yLack of culture then...
Asker+1 yRape culture is a sociological concept for a setting in which rape is pervasive and normalized due to societal attitudes about gender and sexuality.

Asker+1 yHave you ever watched porn? Objectified a woman?
Asker+1 yPorn has a lot to do with how badly women are considered, yes.
Asker+1 yAre you sure they are? How many of them have been abused in their childhood? Stats showed many have.
Asker+1 yHow is consent shown in porn anyways?
Asker+1 yNo. How do we see any evidence of women approval of what's done to her in porn movies themselves? Never.
- +1 y
I would imagine that it was up in the first place as it would otherwise be illegal no at that point its the sites jobs to police whats rape vids or not plus concent in porn is based on the process that there are paid actors contributing on making erotica or if its casual two consenting parties allowing sowing to be recorded and put out there and if both dont its classed as revenge porn and again illegal
- +1 y
Its the same way many porn sites took measure to only allow accounts they can verify to ensure that everything was above age plus this argument would work if we couldn't look at how many women do concent to porn I. e only fans a system where the control in in the hands off the women making the content and its exploding popularity shows that many women are more then happy to contribute in porn plus the countless porn actresses already out there
Asker+1 yI was just saying porn movies never showed women agreeing to sex. It's just a given she would let it happened, no matter how degrading it is or how she seemed not into it in the scene just before.
Porn gives a false image of sex and consent. That's the problem.- +1 y
No it gives a false image if u watch porn and think its real life again that becomes a issue off people learning and understanding not the content itself I have watched porn for years and never thought because I'm kind to a girl or help or assist her that she will fuck me because I'm not a retard porn is staged acting its not real human interaction unless its armature and even then its still staged
Asker+1 ySay that to all the kids and teenagers who believe otherwise. Anyway, oversexualizing women is part of the problem too.
- +1 y
Lol that shows that parents and the schooling systems in place have failed lol which again I didn't influence and yes oversexualsing women plays a part but then thats down to marketing by companies that are looking to sell products and making money plus the women that are already out there and know that sex sells and also partake in that practice again not somthing I have control over
Asker+1 ySure many things around us are part of the problem.
- +1 y
Yes they are which we both agree but thats why claims off all men are the issue dont help because like said u polarise the conversation and instantly get peoples guards up because they feel accused off something they have not done for use to fix the issue requires people to work together turning the conversation into its your fault just helps to shut the convo down
Asker+1 yAll men should feel concerned by it honestly. So, yes, it involves all men and all women.
Asker+1 yOK so if you're a man who doesn't watch porn, expects clear consent, don't make weird jokes about women or rape in general,... You're not the issue by yourself. But maybe you just let it happen, fail to report it,... Yes, you're still part of the problem. I know I am for instance.
- +1 y
If I stated I have never seen it happen how could I fail to report it but meh u have your opinion I guess its somthing I disagree with as a whole as like I said i dont see myself as part off the issue as this is behaviour i dont engage in but thats part off the issue itself we will never be able to fix it if people can't or don't talk about it and people won't talk about it if we are throwing accusations at eachother

+1 yHow about you start defining what rape culture means? And then explain how we live in a rape culture?
Asker+1 yNot the subject
Not the question- +1 y
That's exactly the subject, if you accuse people of denying there is a rape culture. If you accuse them, you have to define what rape culture is.
Asker+1 yYour answer was very enlightening actually.
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yBecause rape culture doesn't exist. We live in an anti-rape culture, not a rape culture. Rape is illegal, it is viewed as a horrible crime and people who rape are seen as despicable sub-human garbage. Only a small fraction of men are rapists and the vast majority of men, if they caught a rapist in the act, would beat him to a bloody pulp.
How exactly is that "rape culture? No person with half a brain and a shred of intellectual honesty would actually believe it is.22 Reply
Asker+1 yTime to open your eyes lol
Opinion Owner+1 yPlease, enlighten me. Provide some evidence to support the claim that there is a rape culture. Does rape happen? Of course it does. Does that mean there is a culture to support it? Of course it doesn't. It's no different than saying there is a murder culture, which of course is equally absurd.
"Rape culture" in the US is nothing but a tool feminists use to perpetuate division and hatred toward men.

Rape is one of the most harshly punished crimes everywhere in the First world. Here in the US, we even elected a President who made policies violating basic Constitutional rights to combat a rape epidemic that doesn't actually exist. Assuming rape is tolerated, let alone normalized, requires either being blinded by ideology or an ignorance of basic facts.
So no, basic observation and deduction, which is contingent upon having those capabilities.
Asker+1 yObviously, you don’t know much about it.
- +1 y
Obviously, I do- and so do those who argue it doesn't exist. That's why that make that claim. I'm guessing that you dispute that. Okay, then. Explain to me why, if our culture normalizes rape, it's so harshly punished. Why the evidentiary standards for it are so low. Why the visceral reaction against it so strong. Why, if the level of disapproval for rape doesn't constitute opposition, you don't claim we live in a "littering culture", which by comparison enshrines littering as the highest of human virtues. You're making a ludicrous claim that all apparent evidence refutes, but I'm willing to hear you out- what's your proof?
They believe if people are being raped that America promotes that. We do not.
