What are your thoughts on Gen Z?

Personally, I really dislike my generation. I feel like we are easily offended, overly idealistic and extremely vain. Obviously not everyone in this generation is like this, but so many are. This is seen by mainstream teen culture and the things it values, (nice shoes, attractive features, nice skin, a put together style, perfect hygiene). Of course, there's nothing inherently wrong with these things and they've always been valued in western culture as they are indicators of good health and economic standing. However, I feel like the obsession with them is absurd and ridiculous.

At the same time, I feel like a large number of us are pretty grounded and hard working, even despite the common culture. Many of us have been raised by first generation Americans and have seen firsthand how ridiculous so many (NOT ALL 🙄) millennials were.

However, at my point in life the majority are pretty pessimistic about things they actually have to work for, like so many people in my advanced classes especially chem and math are dropping it because it's hard. It's true that its hard but it's easy for me to maintain A's because of recourses on yt. We don't realize how privileged we are.

What do you think about us?

They're amazing. They will solve the worlds issues brought on by boomers.

They're ok, nothing special. All younger generations go through this type of phase.

They're horrible. They will probably ruin the world as we know it.

The world already is dead. There is no going back from the things that have taken place in the last 2 years. Systemic collapse and a big extinction event is entirely possible. Hopefully what replaces it is much better.

The next generation give us so much hope.

For example, it is mostly the older generation that has perpetuated the suffering and the disaster of the last two years, by still tuning in to the mainstream media, to the fear based propaganda. Many young people don't even watch tv at all these days. A good third of young people rejected the jabs (at least initially, not sure of the percentage now). An unreasonable amount of suffering was placed upon the shoulders of young people. These people know what the score is.

On the other hand, this generation have never known a world without a screen. That is their biggest fallibility. This is the agenda that humanity has to battle in order to keep its soul. Its merging with AI, so humanity forgets its, well, humanity, its morality, its ultimate symbiotic wedding with nature.

Too soon to tell, honestly. While generations do roughly have a 15-25 year span, they are often defined by major events in the nation and world that affected them, or sometimes by major events that *did not* affect them. The six generations still alive today:

1. The "GI" Generation, born mid 1920s and earlier. Rapidly passing away, but a few million of them still around in the USA I think. Affected as the name implies, by WW2.

2. The "Silent" Generation, born late 1920s to early 1940s. Beginning to pass away as well. Essentially affected by the 1950s. The Generation of Elvis. "Too young for WW2, too old for the Vietnam draft".

3. The "Boomers", born mid 1940s and 1950s, (maybe early 1960s?). As the name implies, born during the "baby boom" of the late 1940s and 1950s, later became the hippies, then the yuppies, now becoming the senior citizens.

4. "Generation X", born 1960s, 1970s, early 1980s. I am here. Last Children of the Cold War, which definitely sets us apart from younger Millennials/Generation Y. They mostly fell for Bernie Sanders guff, we mostly do not. Some argument as to where Boomers end and Generation X begins, I think the cut off point is how they remember the 1970s. Boomers as young adults remember it fancifully, Generation X as children were horrified by all the nonsense and decay.

5. Generation Y, born mid 1980s, 1990s, early 2000s? Sadly indoctrinated to be "Woke" by leftist Boomers. Did not learn lessons of Cold War.

6. Generation Z - born mid 2000s to present. Too soon to tell!

Ok- first off that was a generalization I made, however it wasn't an unfounded one. You guys grew up in a very economically stable little bubble. Many have rode this bubble into adulthood where you guys could access actually AFFORDABLE schooling, buy ADORABLE living and grow and prosper their careers.

In the same breath many of the people in this generation like to criticize the younger generation for not excelling as much as they did.

My generation along with the ones before me will ultimately be paying for your high price retirements though taxes, which we definitelyy would like to pay for with everything else going on.

I don't like to paint with a broad brush, but how are we to make progress when no one akloleges their mistakes? I know some do and that's amazing because it's not a very pleasant thing to do. But for others the denial is getting very old. As the future ingeritants of this country, we have a right to be upset, especially when those who brought on this problem won't acknowledge that they even did.

Do you just think they sat on their butt's everyday waiting for the year's to pass until age 65 and they could collect their social security retirement at age 65? My first job was at age 16 and I worked for 30 years! Yes, that was me hitting the snooze button on the clock. I had to get up, get dressed, take the bus to work for some of it. All of us did not live or have the life you described, the one you dreamed up in your mind. Anyway, I paid taxes for 30 years! Thank God I wasn't lazy and I worked, otherwise I wouldn't be getting a check every month. I worked for my own retirement thank you very much! So, you can just keep your money and save it for your own retirement like I had to. And you spelled acknowledged incorrectly. You need to work on that.

I think as with all others there are good bits and not so good bits.

i believe all those born within the Social media and technology era.

Where life is pretty much seen through social media have it far harder than previous generations.

I grew up in Newcastle, we knew nothing about people say 300 miles away other than papers or on TV.

We did how we wanted, our only influences were things from Music papers and magazines and our mates.

Really not much tbh.

these days though everything is judged via social media, the internet, fashions and what’s in can almost change by the hour.

Anything that is said flies around the globe and everyone hears about it.

if I did something stupid, my mates took the piss and that was it.

we only had to be concerned about school bullies at school, now it’s school and internet bullies 24/7.

With Covid many will have it even harder due to missed education, changes in physical social interaction.

I think they may surprise us all.

I don't usually think in terms of generations, but I guess it's a mixed bag. I think there's a lot of poor philosophy, ideology, and upbringing going around at the moment, and they're partly involved and subject to that.
Otherwise, this is a generation that has grown up online with unprecedented access to knowledge, should they choose to use it. So maybe we'll see some super-humans coming out of that; becoming a polymath has never been so easy... so long as they don't remain addicted to social media forever.

And along with the decentralisation of knowledge, the "misinformation" regarding distributed narratives could lead to some interesting change.

I don't like the generation classification system for those born after 1964 because they're sequential labels given to 15 year time increments. Instead, I think the '07-'08 financial collapse and the '20-'21 pandemic should define a generation that came of age during and between those events (those born ~1987-2004).

I think all young people go through the phase, but although the phase always happens the world isn't the same every time. I think right now, between technology and politics, and subsequently economics, the culture for young people is totally fucked -- more than usual. It's an epistemological crisis. Millennials were fucked up first, now they're middle aged and assuming positions of authority and power, and Gen Z is looking to them to be guided, but find mostly lost childless degenerates selling them on toxic politics.

I heard that we're done evolving physically for the most part, but the new type of evolution will be in intelligence and work productivity. As the work force becomes more and more competitive, only the intelligent will be able to thrive while the less will fall to the bottom of the class system, where it becomes increasing less plausible that you will be able to make your way back up. I don't think less work say people will ever stop existing, but the divide between upper and lower classes will continue to grow unless something drastic happens.
