Are you the type to cheat in life (as in, not relationship cheating, but everything else)?

In terms of non-relationship-cheating, are you the type to cheat in order to get ahead in life? To use your looks, height, bust, sex appeal, parents connections, money, etc, to get ahead in life where you otherwise would not have succeeded? Or do you always play by the rules and only accept winning through fair and square tactics?

Honestly, I'm a rule-breaker. 100%. I'd never get ANYWHERE in life if I wasn't. I was born with damn-near every disadvantage a First-World citizen can have. Physical, socioeconomic, and family disadvantages. So I will unapologetically admit I cheat when I need to, and maybe even sometimes when I don't. Hell, my motto might as well be
"Cheat early and often. Just DON'T GET CAUGHT! Cheating is only bad if you get caught."

I don't lie or cheat. When it comes to people, I play fair and square. But I'll certainly put my best foot forward and take advantage of my strengths and skills.

Okay, I'll admit that I lied to my parents. And I lied to cops, teachers, and people in authority a few times. I don't have a lot of respect for authority unless it's earned.

I was good at gaming the system at work in order to get my job done as quickly and efficiently as possible. I was friends with a manager who once said it didn't take him all day to do an eight our job. That's because he worked smart. It's fine to bend the rules.

I also have no compunction with breaking rules and laws if they don't seem applicable. I partied with friends and drank alcohol when I was under age. I had sex when I was under age and had sex with under age girls. I used to smoke weed all the time when I was young.

My friends and I sneaked into drive-in theaters a few times. In fact, I've sneaked into lots of places.

I sneaked into the "no visitors" areas of the Queen Mary a couple of times and into the bowels of the ship to explore, once with a girlfriend and once with my wife. I sneaked into off limits parts of Disneyland, too.

I learned how to hack pay phones and make calls for free.

I went to lots of concerts and would sometimes buy balcony seats, then climb down to find better seats once the auditorium was dark. I did that at pro-baseball games, too, hopped over barriers and sometimes found empty season seats.

Back in the day, before 911, I smuggled illegal fireworks back to California in my airplane luggage. I did the same with some tracer ammo one time.

I have no problem entering "exit only" driveways or driving the wrong direction in "one way" parking lot aisles if it's safe and convenient. That shit drives my wife nuts. LOL
I sometimes break highway laws, too, especially speeding.

I NEVER complied with mask mandates and made a point of not standing on those absurd stickers that were designed to keep people socially distanced in stores. In fact, I never obeyed any of the mandates.

There was a drive in movie in the next town. It backed up to a cemetery. We could drive in the cemetery all the way to the back row of the drive in. The cemetery was up about 6 or 7 feet higher than the drive in so you could park at the little hill, shut off your lights and kill the engine and coast into the back row. We would sit there for a few minutes than move someplace else.

I will break the rules if I feel justified in it and if it's not directly harming anyone. I would not cheat someone else out of a success but if I can help myself by avoiding unnecessary rules then I will. That doesn't mean I don't work hard, I will just take the opportunities presented to me if there's no harm to anyone else. Sadly, on occasions when I could have taken advantage of the situation but did not because it would harm the other person, that person instead of showing some kind of acknowledgement hated me for even having that opportunity in the first place despite it not being my fault at all.

No. I worked for everything I have on my own and been on my own since I was 14. It's been rough but who ever said life was easy for some of us. The things I didn't and don't know how to do I teach myself. There are no shortcuts in life, I started from literal ground zero and over the last 15 years, worked hard, little by little, day by day. My motivation from an early age is sink or swim, I can do this on my own. I see lots of people with the parent advantage or other things but in the end they will never value or appreciate what they have like I do.

I'm similar to you, except just working hard and being the smartest/most capable never worked out in my favor. (Nor would it have for anyone else.) But I get what you're saying. I wish all it took was hustle for me to be successful, too.

Hang in there even when everything turns to shit, keep going. If you only knew what I have been through... Eventually things will come full circle, nothing great is overnight mine has been and will be yet years in the making. I have a ways to go, but for what I have no in the this very moment I am grateful. Maybe in the end I just enjoy the fight of it all and that is what keeps me going that fire to succeed

I stay within the boundaries of the rules but I seek any advantage I can within those constraints. If I use role-playing games as an example, I'm a min-maxer type. I like to analyze the way the game is designed, and its rules, and figure out how to exploit the game short of actually cheating.

The fun for me is in being able to exploit the game given how it's designed but confined to its rules. I'm the type that probably annoys game designers since I tend to find all the things that require them to nerf the game very quickly.

If I use blackjack as another example, I'm a card counter. I can rapidly deal out 4 decks worth of cards to all but the last card and tell you if the last card is low (2-5), mid (6-9), or high (10/J/Q/K/A) with a ternary counting system, not simply binary. Yet I don't consider that cheating because there's no rule in blackjack that we aren't allowed to memorize the cards dealt and keep a mental counter.

And in North American casinos, card-counting IS counted as cheating, even if it really isn't.

That's a tricky one. I'm most motivated by a personal sense of morality and ethics (although my own ones that I developed -- they aren't always perfectly in harmony with laws and societal expectations). I think I'd just perish quickly if I was surrounded by cutthroat types, like a Ned Stark being beheaded not long after he arrived in King's Landing. :-D

I'm a bit too hedonistic for my own good, but not all that materialistic. I see my goal in life to be able to die relatively decent on my own terms. I can be a bit of a rule-bender at times -- if not an outright rule-breaker -- if I disagree with the rules.

If I feel like I'm in the most hopelessly rigged game though, I try to quickly change up the scenery -- like bar-hopping -- and find or make a new game. Yet I don't favor actions that benefit me provided I'm not caught. I'd still be haunted by my conscience even if no one caught me. That might be a bit emotional and not all that logical but a lot of the value and meaning I derive in life isn't based on the notion of getting away with things, but on doing things that won't haunt me regardless of whether or not I'm caught doing them.

... the motivation for me if a game seems rigged though from which I can't change the scenery is not so much by the other people cheating the system. If I bend or outright break rules it's because I don't agree with them -- as I might still attempt to count cards at a casino even though they throw people out with it because I disagree that we can't use our eyes and brains playing the game. I consider that a very unreasonable and unethical rule and so I see no reason to follow it. :-D I might end up buried in a desert but I didn't break my own rules at least.

i mean, it'll be very unsatisfying if i cheat in every single thing that i do and none of my accomplishments are fair. i feel like life would just be dull at that point, since none of my achievements are really mine. but, putting in a ton of hard work in life CONSTANTLY is exhausting, so i'd still like to cheat around quite often.

In conclusion, i just do whatever i want to do LOL.

Originally I was trying to do things fair, but life isn't fair and I got walked all over for it, taken advantage of and didn't get anywhere. I then became very assertive to do what it takes, although I do follow the rules though. The question then becomes what are the rules?

The way I see it, no point in being fair if most others are not. I just make up my own rules along the way as they only apply to me and not others anyways.

I live by my own code. If I think something is unfair or just plain wrong I will figure out a way around it. I do not call it cheating I look at it as a pre-emptive strike.

Play by the rules. The only cheating I may do is lie during an interview. Thankfully with education related jobs I have no reason to lie. I want to be an educator and being open and honest helps the most.
