So how are you going to cope?
Is it true that the highest temperatures in the UK are around 38-40 degrees? If so, are people really this fragile to be bothered by 40c? I'm living in a un-airconditioned apartment (only ceiling fan) that is 44-45c most of the days and I have no problem with it.
Weirdly enough we'll go on holiday for two week to hot countries but second it's too hot here we'll moan
@purplepoppy The heat belongs in foreign countries, not in Britain.
How hot is it supposed to be there? I live in the US in the southern part and we get temperatures around 80 to 90°F which is 32.2°C according to Siri. We get those days quite often thankfully it’s only been in the 70s lately though. I think I can make it through the summer in Britain though
Summer is usually below 25°C 20 is average
How is 37°C considered a heatwave? Maybe if it was 42°C then sure
We’re experiencing a heat wave in Canada too. Where I am it’s 28°c and feels like 35°c. It has peaked for the day and in an hour will start to ‘cool’ down. Normally nights are about 10 but tonight at 1am it’ll be 19 and feel like 20. 25 is usually what our summer days are like.
She didn't mention a specific temperature that would be reached in her little speech. In Australia during the summer months, the average temperature can be between 35 and 40 degrees. In England when it reaches about 25, the people there think that's "hot", LOL :D

First use of my bikini in about three years, and I'm wearing it in my dining room while I work. Think I might put on a t-shirt for a conference call later though...
The English (not the Scottish or Welsh because they don't moan as much as we do) just can't cope with extremes of temperature when it isn't on a beach in southern Spain. We can basically only cope when it is miserable, slightly raining and at the temperature is where you need to wear a light jacket to go to the beach.
I am off to a beach in Mexico for the whole of August and I am not sure I will be able to cope...
Just sit inside with my fans, or go in the garden with suncream and appreciate the nice weather. It really sucks that British housing isn't adapted to handle heat whatsoever, if this was another country 38c would feel like nothing, because they have thin houses, with ac we have bricks that absorb heat, insulated walls to keep it in, double glazed windows, and no AC.
Seriously. So called "National Emergencies" are getting incredibly common these days.
Just take sensible precautions really, otherwise it's business as usual. Maybe avoid public transport as that'll be the first thing to go into meltdown in this country.
None of the choices above, there many be a 'national emergency' In the south, but up here in the North of England we are slated for the mid 20's for next week as it uaually is this time of year, that is nothing when you work in an Extended Care Facility for the over 50's where by government regulation the temp has to be a minimum of 25 Deg C 24/7/365
I laugh it brazilian.

Also, you can't please the brits, they keep bitching about how the British isles' climate is all depressing and shit, and now they complain they finally have sun for a change after 50 straight years of overcast skies! lol!
I’m Indian so this heat is the stuff I was built for… doesn’t make it any more fun tho like I didn’t come to England for the weather to be like india I came here for the desolate and miserable cold and rain okay
Throwing blankets over all the windows, keeping all doors and windows shut and hoping that will do it, managed to keep the house at 23 while 30 outside the other week
It’s the blitzkrieg…. RUN…. The sun is blitzkrieging the bloody 🩸 Nation…. HELP US we are melting.. 🙀
I was in Vienna recently, and they have places spraying fine droplets of water you could stand in, and free drinking water fountains. It was quite pleasant.
I'm British but living in Africa. Living here where in winter it can hit 30°C tells me in the UK we know fuck all about heat.
Sounds like they're getting what they deserve. The majority of Earth's carbon emissions are caused by British Petroleum.
Well my way of coping is deciding whether I could actually go into work wearing shorts for the first day of my life next Monday or Tuesday.
I mean, it would have to be a pretty big emergency to go into work with shorts.
I'll be working in a kitchen. Not looking forward to that tbh.
Stiff upper lip, wear a hat and go about your days as normal, that’s what I do. I’m pale and burn easily but I don’t mind the heat.
After all the Brits turn black, they're welcome to come to America.
Once the British empire ruled the world. Now you’re afraid of summer.
Here in Atlanta we have been pushing 35C for the last few weeks.
I’m Filipino. I was born in the sun 🌞. Just slap some sunscreen on, you’ll be fine.
What temps does the UK consider a heat wave?
They're predicting 40°C in parts of England. I'm expected to get 30°C. Usually they claim anything over 25°C as a heatwave (on a wet year the media drops it to 20)
Yeah just a little lol
I’m driving from that 32 to the 27
Our body is designed to deal with extremes of heat or cold... but it needs sufficient iodine to do so (and selenium). Over 90% of the UK are iodine deficient...
