Do you believe property taxes should be abolished and replaced with another tax system that helps fund cities, public services, etc?

Property taxes have got to be the most anti-freedom thing to have (especially when our property taxes fund groomers in our public education system and power-tripping abusive law enforcement officers). Americans often flaunts the hardest and loudest of supposedly being the "freeiest people/country on earth" while happily being rear-end reyp'd by their federal and and state government with property taxes or else big daddy guberment will take away their houses even if they already fully paid off their mortgages.

Granted, only a few countries in the world don't charge property taxes toward people who already paid off their homes but at least the majority of other countries (with or without property taxes) never claimed to be the "land of the free".

If America truly wants to live up to their "land of the free" title, one of the things they should do is abolish property taxes and replace it with a much less intrusive tax system.

Anything that forces someone to do something against their will, can be seen as a form of slavery. Government taxes are a form of slavery because they are imposed without an individual's consent.

It is often thought that for example, if a government forces its citizens to pay unreasonably high taxes without offering them any services or benefits in return, then this could be entertained to be a form of slavery, or if a government forces its citizens to work in certain industries or do certain tasks without being properly compensated, and so forth.

In reality it doesn't need to be either of these things,. If the government forces you to pay ANY amount of taxes for your own labour, or forces you to work at ANY industries or tasks where else they threaten to throw you into jail -is already slavery, like it or not.

I think people should be able to pay taxes whenever they choose to, and benefit from their services, but also should be allowed to decline those services and they don't owe anything to anyone when they haven't taken anything from anyone.

My question to you is, all the people who decline to pay taxes and use the things those taxes pay for…. how are they going to leave the house? If they choose to not use the government funded roads and sidewalks, how would they get around?
Pay per use? $25 just to leave your house, and $15.99 for each mile?

Maybe as a tax incentive, apply to pay 5X or more into the lowest property taxed areas of America. It would be lower then your local taxes but funds some of the more poverty stricken places in America.

I can see as that as a win win. Family's like taxes funding local causes, that's why amd how we use property tax. For the people that don't give a fuck about local causes and want cheaper taxes, let them fund it in to far off poverty areas not necessarily in my area to build up building a better America.

I would advocate for moderate property taxes and income based property taxes cause some people own big homes and cannot afford the taxes because they are retired. Property taxes should be proportional to income and not just overall net worth or property value.

Nope. The US only created income tax to fund wars and military expansion. Prior to that, this country consistently created a surplus of revenue through property taxes and tariffs. We never should have abandoned that system. I suspect that we could go back to it, but it would take a long time to create a self-sustaining economy that doesn’t rely on global trade. We’d also have to clear our national debt. If we apply tariffs, other nations could pull their support of our currency and our economy would collapse almost overnight. Thank the heavens for warmonger capitalism, right? Ell oh ell!

Everybody needs services. Services cost money. Somebody must pay for it. I would rather have a local income tax where the residents of the town have to pay at their local town hall a portion of their income. That will pay for the services that most people need. Roades, bridges, schools, police and fire depts etc. Eliminate property taxes altogether. Then eliminate state taxes. The higher you go up the food chain the more the incidence of fraud and waste.

I don’t want to be taxed and have the money sent to a corrupt city! Just no! Look at Baltimore with huge numbers of SCHOOLS that have no students that can pass a competency test for English or Math! Not one in dozens of schools. Not one! AND these schools spend more than other schools that produce quality students. Noooooo!
