Do you miss the days when people would accept facts and discuss the implications?

It used to be that even in politics people would accept facts as facts. Reasonable debates could be had over the implications of those facts, but opinion didn't override reality.

Some recent examples of the latter would be the 2020 election, the effectiveness of masks and vaccines, the proportion of Americans who support gun regulation, etc.

Sometimes I wonder if this is a symptom of getting older. 😂 Because yeah, honor USED to be a thing. But then I remind myself there never was the good ol' days where men were truly honorable. Lies and dishonesty has ALWAYS permeated society. But in the modern sense with the rise of the internet. The ability to not only find information but information to be subverted has never existed before like now. People don't choose the news. The news chooses them. And the news caters to what they want to be told. And the people at the top rake in the money of the add revenue that sponsors it. Want to know the demographic of media source? All you have to do is look at the commercials.

There was never a time when everyone was honourable, but at least they pretended, and were punished when they were found out. That still happens on the left (e. g. Al Franken), not on the right (Trump, Trump, Gaetz, the 147 that voted not to accept the legal election results in 2020, etc.).

If you get into actual political discussions that is still a thing. Obviously not here and you will not find it either in the basic 0815 news or in most election campaigns. The last is mostly about people, and what sounds best to the public who dont know stuff.
