The big deal about the eclipse is it's a rare one. There will be loads of solar flares and for North America it's going to be a large swath of people able to see the totality.
Totality is a really big deal and a big show. I heard a scientist say even if you were in the 99% of totality region, you would NOT see what folks see in the 100% region.
The next big one won't be until 2045. There will be one in a few years, but it will only be visible in Montana and N. Dakota, which, in my opinion, might be better places because it's likely there will be clearer skies.
There's supposed to be cloudy weather over totality and nearby areas (mine included). Oh, and in addition, the totality regions will experience 4+ minutes of totality, an unusually long amount of time. The most recent one in 2017 only had 2 minutes of totality.
I'd LOVE to see it, but don't have the money to get there. Plus all the hotels have been sold out for more than a year. And, personally, I didn't even KNOW about the facts of totality until I heard it on the radio last week. It's going to be a light show.
So, it is a big deal for people who like astronomical events. I love watching the Perseids in August and someone told me there's another meteorite show in November/December that might be better than that. I look at the moon every chance I get when it's waning and waxing and I keep an eye out for Jupiter and Saturn when they're most visible..
There's a lot lovely about our area of the universe and this is a Hollywood event.

The April 8th eclipse is a big deal because it's a total eclipse for a lot of places in North America! That means the moon completely blocks the sun for a few minutes, turning day into night. It's a rare sight and pretty amazing to experience. Plus, this eclipse will last longer than usual and be visible across a wider area, so many people will get to see it.
The media loves to sensationalize things.
Those eclipses are not that big of a deal. I watched the last one in 2017. I still have the glasses. That one was not total, but very close. So the sky gets kind of pale, with an odd color. For the last one I was sitting out in the driveway with some neighbors. Mostly we were just talking. Every now and then we'd put on the glasses and take a look. The total part doesn't last long, but from start to finish it lasts quite a while. It's not like people are looking at it the whole time.
By the way, I'm in the 100% zone. I will probably get with the same neighbors - more of a social thing than anything else. Currently they are predicting mostly cloudy though. But unless it's totally black clouds, we should still be able to see something.
A lot of traffic.
But what's unique about this solar eclipse is that it is a "total" eclipse, which means there are zones on the planet where the moon will completely cover the sun. If you are in that zone know in advance that it is different. Even a 99% eclipse will still just look like a sunset. 100% is suddenly midnight in the middle of the day. Plus, you can look at the sun when it is 100% covered - otherwise the tiniest bit of light from the sun, even 1%, can still cause irreparable eye damage.

It's just more sensationalism marked by a calendar event. People are always saying something is coming. Last year they were saying "get ready" for something major in September. Nothing happened. They said it for March too. Nothing happened.
The world is in such disarray that it looks for something with no real information, or they believe the information they have will point to something big coming. They'll probably say it again a few more times before the year ends.
Nothing is coming! It's just a bunch of stupid, superstitious people once again predicting the end of the world, thinking that eclipses actually mean something (they don't). I just wish we could transport these MORONS back to the Dark Ages where they belong.
If I were an alien... and who knows... maybe I am... did GAG confirm anyone is a real human... I'd do my takeover then.
Forewarn everyone the grid could go down due to peak solar storms and wait for a total eclipse... and when come out of it as the French humans would say "wallah"... I install a "new" president that looks exactly like the old one, but he's an Alien imposter.
Not a shot fired.
Then we could convince the masses to eat bugs while we dine on their cows. Smart Aliens think and plan...
We had a family trip to St. Claire MO for the 2017 eclipse and it was a fun time. Festivities were at a local park and the pavilion/tables/seats were fine. BUT - they did a horrible job of underestimating how many people were going to need food to eat. The vendors needed about 3 times their capacity. We took trust waiting in line. By the time we got to the service window, our order had doubled (as did many of the others, I'm sure. But it was fun.
We are in the 90% zone for Monday. We bought a case of glasses for the family and passed them out at Easter, so each will be on their own, in 75% or better areas.
The next one anywhere near us will be in 2045- so we better catch this one!
I’m excited about the solar eclipse, it’s gonna be my first time experiencing it. Sadly I heard that we might get storms and it’s gonna be cloudy and I’m from Texas so that’s where it’s gonna be fully visible. I hope it doesn’t because I know a lot of people are traveling here to see it. About everyone saying something is coming I don’t believe something bad is gonna happen. Everyone is scared for no reason.
Theories that everyone will see demons disguised as humans. That the veil will lift. Everyone will see aliens and demons.
Or that everyone will turn into a zombie or becomes unhinged due to parasites from the “ 💉”. Cute of 2020…
I highly doubt either of those.
the amazing thing is both are the same apparent size! the sun is far enough to seem smaller and the moon at the correct distance to be the same and cover precisely in contrast to a further moon causing a donut view. it seems the moon was artificially planned. also its spin! coincidence? but not random!
Most people only get to experience a solar eclipse once in their life. There's something very real about seeing the sun blotted out by the moon.
I doubt very much indeed that I shall be around to see the next Solar Eclipse here in the UK, as it's not due until the 23rd September 2090! lol
could not tell ya
i never cared for it bc its not like i can look at it and im not gonna trust some glasses i buy off of amazon with my vision lmfao i dont wanna be blindHaven't had a total solar eclipse in about a 100 years. Eclipses also cause interesting reactions in animals.
No idea, if anything. The unprepared are always the ones to panic.
The moon will block the sun for a short time for some areas of North America. It doesn't happen often so people make a big deal of it.
They happen up to 5 times a year it's not a big deal. Just people make a big deal out of it because depending where you are you may not see it. Like how this one is mainly only going to be seen by America.
Wym what's coming. An eclipse is coming duh. Prepare. Get some glasses so you can watch it
The Big Deal along, with obsessive coverage and the EMP scare and UFO's are to distract people from the disastrous Biden Administration. "Hey! Look over there! A squirrel!"

most people don't even remember the previous one... lol
Nothing. Just Christians going nuts, again.
That's when the lizard people are going to come out from the hollow earth and do stuff and things.
