What do you think about this neighborhood?

This Philadelphia neighborhood has million dollar homes. Every one of these homes here cost about a million dollars or close to it. They are likely legacy homes and I doubt anyone new has moved in here, in a very long time.

This neighborhood is on the very edge of Philadelphia and might as well count as the suburbs. It is only within two miles of where I grew up. I briefly dated a girl, Abigail, who lived in one of the bigger houses, and I was in walking distance of her.

Literally just one or two blocks away from this neighborhood, is true West Philly. The sharp and severe drop in socioeconomic status, might surprise you. From million dollar homes, to $30,000 rowhouses.

If you explore around the map and find the absolute sh*ttiest, grimiest dirtiest part of the neighborhood southeast from there, you'll have a good idea of the piece of crap super-ghetto I grew up, in West Philly. (Keep in mind, it looks FAR better today than it did in the 90s and 2000s and has been cleaned up a bit, so it used to look even way worse than this.)

What do you think of the wealthy neighborhood?
What kind of people do you think live there?
Do you think any of them interact with the people just two blocks south of them?
Did you grow up in a peaceful serene neighborhood like this?

It is not too different than the neighborhood I live in now. Most houses are selling in the million dollar range. It is in a rural town and the residents are always fighting to keep the urban blight to a bare minimum. I bet that a bunch of yuppies live in that neighborhood now and they are all liberals but will have nothing to do with the poor people that live two blocks away and send all their kids to private schools.

I grew up in a middle class neighborhood and the town had very lax building codes and were allowed to build an unlimited number of houses on small lots. They were trying to encourage "affordable housing" ad a result the town has turned into big slum. Everyone I know has moved out and the school system was rates almost at the bottom in the state.

Not too similar to the big UK houses excluding the porches, we don't have them as a rule

I think every major metropolitan area probably has an area or areas like this. I've seen it in Chicago, Denver, St. Louis, Phoenix, DC, the list goes on and on.
We live in a quasi rural area but we still have access to a major metropolitan area in the southwest. Our neighborhood certainly has some seven-figure homes in it, but a lot of the reason is because they're on acreage. Our neighborhood gets along great, and we don't have much interaction with higher or lower income classes. We're pretty happy :-)

Is the neighborhood a few block away safe? Poverty and crime usually go hand in hand. If it it close to an unsafe area than I would have a more difficult time finding peace living there.

It's safe-ish, yeah. No assaults or gun violence, at least. That neighborhood has a different police jurisdiction than the rich one, though.

As long as a place is safe it’s fine with me. Other than safety the only other concern I would have is if the people would be open and friendly to new neighbors or would they be in a clique with the neighbors that they’ve known for a long time. I know and became friends with a lot of the neighbors where I live and enjoy that aspect of my neighborhood a lot.

The rich people are definitely cliquey. I mean, there is that two block buffer, with the one in the middle being small shops and restaurants, so that's probably the only time they would ever even see each other, as I doubt the rich people would even cross the border too often.
