Is moving across the country a big thing?

I'm curious what some people's take is on this topic. Do you believe that picking up your life and moving yourself across country is a big thing? Say that you don't have any responsibilities like a wife/husband that you need to confirm with or any children that are holding you back from such a move, would you do it? And do you think it's big thing?

I'm currently 23 years old and have been dating my girlfriend long distance for soon to be 8 months and I want to move across the country to be closer to her. I don't have anything that's holding me back from making such a move and I'm in a really good financial position (and it will only get better hopefully in the coming weeks/months). I want to make the move but my dad seemed to have some objections. If you wouldn't make the move, what are some things that would stop you? What would be some deciding factors on if you would do it or not?

I think that when you're really young you need to take chances and take opportunities that present themselves so that when you're older you don't have regrets of what could have been (reasonable things ofc, not anything that God would frown upon you for). I moved to a different country for marriage. My friends and some family members questioned my decision because they though it was rather dractic (Malaysia to America). I don’t regret anything because I was all ready for it. It was a long-term plan. I was smart enough not to loan anything from the bank that would cause debt or blacklisted. I also rejected a government job several years back that required me to work for certain amount of time. I basically had nothing to worry when I left.

Not really. I have moved between states and have lived in 3 different countries. I enjoy having a change.

I think two major challenges to moving to a new place is logistical changes and social changes. When we vacationed in Miami, my dad had difficulty navigating the streets cause they were more complicated and speedy than streets in my city. But somebody who's lived there for a while is used to navigating complex traffic situations while moving from one place to another.

The other thing is, when I moved to my city, places like medical offices or malls or parks or close friends were not walking distance anymore, so I had to bus to where I needed to go and it took a long time for me to learn the different busing routes and some I never attempted cause I was worried I would make a mistake and show up late for an appointment. T

here is also dietary changes. In Australia, potatoes are expensive so we did not eat them very much of that plant there. In Canada lattes are expensive so we do not order them very much in Canada. In America, water is expensive, so we got reusable water bottles and refilled them instead of buying them the way we would have here. Things like that require getting used to.
