Maybe right as he saw the text, he was about to type a reply but then he tripped on something and tried to correct himself by catching himself and leaning backwards, but in the process, he fell backwards into a rolling chair... phew, except the chair rolled backwards so far and down the stairs and he fell down the stairs into someone who spilled their coffee all over themselves and him. Then while profusely apologizing he dashed to the bathroom to get some tissues to help himself and the other person wipe the coffee stains but on the way he ended up slipping because his shoes were wet and dropped his smartphone into the toilet.
