What does "I don't want to ruin the Friendship" REALLY mean?

I want to know does that mean what it says, or does it mean I'm just not attracted/into you right now. I've had good guy friends I've known for a year, but when the subject of dating comes up, I think they don't see me fit enough to date! Is the whole "I don't want to ruin the friendship" thing true, or is it just a lie so you won't have to date the girl! Guys, and girls too, please reflect on that, because it makes me worried that I can't leave the "friend" zone. I like being friends with guys, getting to know them, before I date them but let me know if I need to stop that or not.

well as you say , I believe that guys see in you a very good friend. Infact , I would say that's a great thing for any person. But yea when you hear it from some one you love ( or like to be ur mate) then it would really put you off the track. Yea it might sound bad.. but I do believe that to some extent it means that a person is not willing to come up into a relation but then that person doesn't want to end an existing relation. The reason why that person doesn't want to end the relation could be that he likes you ! But hasn't thought of you as a soul mate.

Better give some time for the relation to be more mature and never be in a hurry ! because true relations do need time to shape up. If you are thinking for lust and stuff then time is immaterial but if you are serious about relation .. then better give some time ..so that the person sticks to you for ever!

Wow great answer, thanks! Me and that person have only really known each other (aside from seeing each other in the hall, things like that) for a year, and aside from my one other best friend (a girl, I've known since kindergarten) he feels like I've known him forever. I'm not really a lust-person, I like people for what they are on the inside, so I was thinking maybe once we both do some years of growing up, there might b a possible relationship...?

"I don't want to ruin the friendship" usually means they're trying to let you down gently because they have zero interest in dating someone.
