Compliments when used sparingly are meaningful. Some guys play hard to get way too much that they can't express basic interest, and that will hurt them more than it will help them. Just understand your mindset. If you believe you are an awesome guy, you have a lot of things going for you and the girl you are dating is just a part of your life (And not your entire life), then you'll be fine.
Compliments alone will not put you in the friend zone. What matters is how you carry yourself with a girl as well as the timing and delivery of those compliments.
To me it seems like when a guy is too comfortable giving compliments, he's either gay or a player. Use them sometimes but only when you really mean it. If your compliment is genuine the girl will be very flattered and if not she won't friend zone you, but she may question your intentions and what type of guy you are. Good luck! :)
abusing compliments just make them less/not special anymore. but complimenting someone once in a while is flattering. but if you use them too often then they don't have the same effect, and ya it might put you there.

Compliments don't put you in the friend zone. Groveling and worshiping the girl will usually do the trick though.
Cmpñimnets that let the girl know pretty easily and early in the relationship then it will put you into friend zone
Some compliments are OK but a lot seem desperate and kind of forced
