It;s just his way of talking. There's a guy I know who always calls me "my love" though we only know each other vaguely from the neighborhood. It made me a little nervous at first because I wondered why he would say that to me, then I heard him use the same term to another lady the other day. It's just a term to say he thinks you're cool, that you're not a stranger. It's nothing much more than that.
Some guys use this has a way to flirt.
Others may say this to every female, it's just their way of interacting with the opposite sex.
If I were you I would look at his actions or pay close attention to other things he says, to see if he likes me.
I think it's clear that you're someone who's very dear to him. Perhaps, you're the person whom he can trust and someone who really understands him.
And about liking you, I think, there is however 7 years is so long.
