How do you talk to a guy you've never talked to before?

So there's this really hot guy that I see during passing period, but I've never talked to him or had any classes with him. He seems pretty quiet alot, and I'm not the type of person that can just message him saying 'hey what's up? I'm Sarah.' I want an ACTUAL reason to talk to him. He's a skater, and his best friend is a friend of mine, but if I ask him about him, he'll most definitely tell his friend. I've already bumped into him, and that didn't work. What do I do!
