Why don't guys like lotion?

I was hanging out with this guy and we were holding hands. I told him I put lotion on before hand and he freaked out. He pulled his hand out of mine and was like " ew, I hate lotion."

I then said " what? ha ha you don't like lotion? You're just lucky my hands are soft :) "

He then replied with " Excuse me for being a guy. :P"

Do most guys not like lotion? Why not if you don't?

I am not sure that that's true - most guys don’t admit they like it. For sure they like to results. I know if the lotion is heavy or greasy I don like it. Also guys think lotions smell “girly”. Tow thinks I can suggest 1) make sure your lotion absorbs and does not leave a greasy film. Maybe a spray lotion would be better in your case. 2) find a fragrance he really likes on you and maybe find one for him. Lotion burns the open calluses on my hands (from heavy weightlifting). That and it leaves my hands feeling a bit slimy and I don't have that good of grip on anything. Those are the reasons why I personally dislike lotion. However I may start using some and dealing with it to try and get rid of dried skin on the palms of my hands.

I don't know why he would freak out if you had some on while you were holding hands though. Seems a bit weird even to me.

okay that guy is just odd. I know some guys that don't care for lotion because a lot of them are scented for women and even ones scented not for women are too much for some of them. but to stop holding your hand and say eww. weird! aha! maybe don't use lotion let your hands get all cracked and dry and see if he likes that better, doubt it! there are suave men lotions and others , my boyfriend uses those and also non scented like eucerin

Guys like smooth hands. And lotion can give you that.

When you first put lotion on, make sure you rub it in well enough so that your hands don't feel oily or wet. That would be a turn-off.

It sort of has the reputation of being something for girls. I used to refuse to use lotion, but after my hands got really dried out I started using it and now I use it everyday. I think a lot of guys see how girls rub it all over, but just on your hands once a day is perfectly fine.

I've known a girl that wears lotion everyday and it smelled really good on her. I didn't mind it at all. If your hands were soft then that's great. I don't understand why a guy would freak out about that. He's probably just weird.

I don't mind it myself, I don't ever really put it on though, but the only explanation I can think of why he freaked out is that putting lotion on would make your hands all smooth and soft and "girly" instead of rough manly hands

I have really dry skin all over and to save money I usually use the same body lotion as my wife. If she goes to Bath and Body Works once in awhile she usually gets lighter scented lotion like plain vanilla
