You first need to relax.
While you like this guy, he isn't the only guy in the world. If you won't get back together, it won't be the end of the world.
Now, here is what I think:
The fact that he makes sure if you are OK is a very good sign. He isn't a bad guy. It is not weird that he ignores you now that he is back with his ex. He doesn't want to be confronted with his decision to leave you and he also doesn't want you to try and get him back. This doesn't mean he doesn't have feelings for you any more, though.
What isn't a good sign however, is that he got back with his ex to begin with. While he isn't a bad guy, he is not very loyal. I am very worried that IF you get back with him, he will do the same another time, hurting you a second time.
In the end, you have to make your own choice. Do you want to risk to be hurt again to be with him(if he wants to get back with you) or do you want to play it safe?
He cares about you that's why he made sure you were alright, he didn't want to hurt you directly... lying doesn't make it OK though. Expect awkward stares. conversations and encounters from all 3 of them lol a kind of embarrassed kind of awkward from him, a kind of jealous, mean vibe of awkward from his girlfriend (if he told her) and a "how awkward is it being here?" vibe from his friend that got you the job lol
