Yes most men / boys like fleshier girls than skinny girls.
The guys who hit on you and later dump you are those who probably want to see how a skinny woman looks and feels like inside of her clothes. Once they are done with that the kink wears off and they take off.
There are TONS of guys (like my brother and a few friends I know) who dig skinny women. Everything that nature has created has it's admirers for various reasons but best known only to them (the admirer).
You require to analyze the guys before you get along with them (if you too don't just feel a kink for him and intend dumping him after a while) and allow them to touch you sexually beyond a point. Pull time, that way if the guy just wants to have sex with you; he'll begin getting irritated and take off.
Take pride in yourself and what you are which is the MOST IMPORTANT thing to do

There are nice guys out there, so don't give up entirely. You are being picky and selective - that's good. Yes, you are going to have to go through some jerks, but don't hesitate to move on. You have your values, and you should stick to them.
By your bio, at your age, guys are at their sexual peak. Their hormones are as high as they will be in life. That is what drives many guys. When I was in my teens and 20's, all I wanted was to get laid. Looking back, it was really shallow and meaningless except for a select few. Most guys will mature out of it.
Where are you 'hunting'? That has a big aspect to this. If you are in bars, they aren't referred to as 'meat markets' for no reason. There are better avenues to find a nice guy.

The answer to that is quite simple ~ people are taught to distinguish between the genders, male and female. However, as a result, many people have a conceptual image of how to handle the opposite gender, what to do with them, how they behave, how they react, what they think, how they think, and the bottom line is always that they are incomprehensible due to being so different.
As a result, there are many guys who conceptually believe that all girls are good for is sex, and they are items to conquer through sweet words and deceit. Whenever it does not work out, they can blame their own errors of not understanding people on the "differences between genders".
While obviously, it's because they are so closed-minded and lost in their own little world of concepts, that they don't realize that we pretty much work the same way, and all this overcomplicating just makes them unable to comprehend the people around them.
Thus, I personally blame the culture of gender binary.. And these people just never grew out of it.
It's guys your age is the problem. Guys and girls alike on gag have attacked me and put me down because I'm attracted to younger females even though they are of age. Now it's my turn to return the favor, at least I can say this much, older guys don't live to get into a girls pants.
I'm probably much bigger than you so I doubt I could fit into your pants very comfortably.
