Nah, I think he got what he deserved. He should have been straight up about not being happy with you or whatever and break up with you before deciding to get into bed with another girl behind your back. Otherwise he could have at least been more honest and maybe communicate more clearly and better and ask if you are up for an open relationship first, which I think would still be better to talk about it first and if he really is undecided if he can fully commit to you then it would be time for the both of you to split and start over again.

If a guy hit you for any reason, the advice to you from your friends and family would most definitely be to leave and never come back. You hit your boyfriend, he should never look back. Simple as that. There is never a reason to strike a lover in anger, and the moment you have crossed that line you are no longer a lover.
