Why did it take so long for him to break up with me?

My boyfriend has been putting low effort into the relationship for a minute now. I asked him several times for weeks, did he want to break up and was he losing interest and his answer was always no. His actions never improved so I would ask again and he will say no he didn’t want to break up. We talked about how I felt he wasn’t doing much and he said he would Improve but he never did. The more I would bring stuff up the angry he would get. So he gets worse, I get frustrated and I ended the relationship with him. I told him we don’t need to see to each other anymore and he told me that he was just about to tell me the same.

Sorry it took so long but at least the right outcome was reached. Not saying that either of you are bad people, just highly incompatible.
