Why do girls keep giving "chances" to guys who are jerks to them?

One of my friends knows this guy. They are not dating or anything, they just "know" each other. I have to say, they get along great and you can tell there's a special "something" between them when they talk to each other, its just obvious. However, he can be a real jerk to her (at least she has said it) but no matter what he does or says, they end up talking to each other again and still having that spark. She says she does not like him "like that" so my question is, why does she put up with all that? What makes her forgive so much?

i don't know how to explain it, but some girls when they fall for someone, they fall hard. that's what happ to me, I was the grl that never liked boys when young I always focused on school and getting As, and when I least expected it, I met this guy who blew my mind, the first couple of months he was so nice to me, kind, thoughtful, respectful, mature, intelligent, you name it, I would have eloped and married him if he asked, and after those two months, I don't know what happened, but he became a jerk to me, he went from the nice guy to a jerk guy, and it was too late I couldn't just fall out of love, I was confused and hurt, but I kept forgiving him and for years I would keep being nice to him. I guess I was looking for answers, I was looking for closure and needed to figure out what went wrong. after a certain point I gave up though, he hurt me pretty bad and I walked away never to see him again. he didn't stop me either so I guess that was my answer. I wasted 4 years on a piece of sh*t.

She could just be a really nice person and she could forgive & forget easily. Or she could be to caught up in his looks or another thing that's good about , him to pay attention to how he treats her. Been there done that

Because girls date/marry men hoping they'll change while guys date/marry women hoping they never do. That's also why so many marriages end in divorce.

Insecure girls stometimes prefer to be in some sort of relationship with guys they don't really like or respect that much, because then the girl always keeps her emotional control. Power is more important than affection for the majority of girls in the US, actually, it's a little discussed but widely known fact.

She's crazy attracted to him physically/sexually/emotionally. It's the same reason guys put up with crap from girls we're attracted to.
