Girls, what is the most common turn off in a guy's online dating profile?

It seems that no one admits to doing online dating but there are a ton of online dating sites that stay in business so. . . somebody is using them! Let's talk about the critical step of reviewing guys' profiles and what turns you off at that stage.

I have done online dating three times in my life: 2007-2008, 2015, and 2017-2018. When I did online dating, I reviewed hundreds - maybe thousands - of women's profiles. There were a few things that were deal killers for me: no pictures posted, pictures with apparent boyfriend, picture with Eiffel Tower in background, statements about wanting a guy who is financially secure, statements that reflected low education, statements about extreme political views.

When you look at a guy's profile, what immediately makes you hit the "back" button and move on to the next profile, despite how attractive his pictures may be?

No photograph

Pictures of him without a shirt, with a dead deer, or some other deal breaker

Unemployed/underemployed. low education status, apparent lack of goals or motivations

Apparent arrogance or cockiness

Lives with his parents

Poorly written profile: misspellings, grammatical errors, run-on sentences, etc.

A shallow profile that tells me nothing about the guy

ALOTTT of guys that put "here for a good time not a long time" & have like 1 picture... what does that tell me about you exactly? I KNOW NOTHINGG about you. I understand the hookups but at least add a picture, i personally don't find any point in hookups. Also a guy who has only groups pics & pics around/hugging another girl c'moon now really? I'm sure you can take a decent selfie & the amount of Dudes with dog pics & no real bio at all really

A lot of adults here in Canada live on a retirement pension or old age income which is often less than $1200 a month - so being poor is quite common - even if you don't have to pay for property you own and yet very few seniors if any at all are homeless. If you are good at budgeting - low income should not prevent you from living a happy and fulfilling life. When I was 5 years old - my whole family was living on my moms $5 an hour dish washer salary and my dad's student salary as a research assistant and teaching assistant and we had a car - went on regular trips to the beach or to niagara falls or to America - and we did fun stuff like swimming or cultural festivals or parties - we also had the best friends - some think you have to have bad friends if your poor - but we were dirty poor and had the most amazing friends you could ever imagine. I also had food luxuries like coke and yogurt and home made popsicles and I even had a computer at home that I would use to play games on. I also watched movies at my rented home. We even had a toboggan and went trick or treating and celebrated Christmas by going on road trips together and my mother even had money to buy herself make up and expensive clothes. My dad was also doing volunteer work despite working two jobs and being a full time graduate student and taking weekly road trips and raising a family and having a busy social life.

What bothers you about guys' profiles on online dating sites?

I avoid any guy with casual intentions or chaotic lifestyles. If he is online for meaningless sex or is happy with no solid routines in his life, I won’t date him. It could indicate drug use or domestic violence later on or an extreme neglect of personal responsibility and fidelity or increased chance of abandonment and future divorce.

No pictures, no public pictures (so that anyone can see them without him approcing it), bad pictures (so you can’t see what he looks like), pictures with 1 or more women, party pictures (with alcohol and/or cigarettes), pictures where they have no shirt on (often sitting at there desk at home, taking the picture with web cam), pictures of him half naked in bed, smokes, drinks a lot, does drugs or seem to have a postive attitude towards drugs, no high school degree, has kids, seem to be a player or just after sex, mentions sex in his profile (like for example that it’s important for him or that he has some weird fetish), doesn’t want kids or to get married, votes left, don’t write and spell properly, seem bitter and/or agressive (like ranting in their profiles about how picky and bitchy all the girls on the site are), list of requirents (”I only want this and that”, ”if you’re this then don’t message me” etc). Lists cars, video games, tattoos and/or beer as interests. States that he wants ”an active girl” that ”takes care of herself” (yeah we all know that he’s really saying ”no fat girls please” and that’s a turn off even though I’m not even fat), if he’s been married before, if he’s recently become single, if uses foul language, if he seems full of himself, if he writes something like ”it’s 2019, women can also write first” or ”I never write first so if you want to talk then message me”. I probably forgot to mention several things.

As I have never online dated ever ( i dont have social media it make me uncomfortable) I have friends who do it. i love reading the profile with them when we lounging around.

And The ones that say.. i own my own "business " or very "loose" in what they do for a living just says to me you have no job.

no pics and I always say if I ever do decide I think waiting longer than 2 weeks to meet is a deal breaker for me. If you are honest about who you said you were why drag it out. 3D is always much better for getting a sense for someone.

All my friends tell me i would suck at online dating and just stick with real life. They say some people will not be able to appreciate my. raw persona lol.

A shallow profile that tells me nothing about the guy. I absolutely hate it when I click on a profile and under the 'about me' section, all it says is 'message me to find out.' To me, that shows laziness and a certain kind of arrogance. Clearly, this type of guy thinks he is so good-looking that girls will just message him without knowing anything about him.

Thirst trap pictures & basic misspellings.. Anything superficial really, if they already complain about how they have been through a lot and how their ideal girl should be. If their description feels like bragging about everything they've already achieved in life + people who mention they are smart. 🙄

I wouldn't assume a man is arrogant before even knowing or speaking to him (though I know some pictures can convey that sense). What turns me off is lack of ambitious goals and desires. Also, poorly written profiles. When I text/message, I type the whole word out. Rarely do I use text-speech. A guy using that to me is a no-go.

When I used to online date I often stumbled upon profiles where guys were trying too hard with their pics. Too much bragging, shirtless pics, pics that looked outright staged. only 1 picture with a bunch of friends (good luck guessing who you're talking to)
I know that today many people stage their pics, but it is still visible. The natural, casual picture was always more appealing to me.

I don't see anything called "description." If you are referring to the details following the title question. . . what is line 2 or line 9 depends on what device you are using to view this app. The lines on my laptop are probably much longer than the lines on your phone. If there is a typo, just tell me the word instead of playing cutesy games.

If there is a typo, I can assure you of a few things:

1. When I did online dating, I spent hours on a profile before I posted it. I was much more careful with online dating because the consequences are more significant.

2. Most users on this site are not spelling or grammar Nazis.

3. If you consider this to be equivalent to a dating site, that is your error.

Eiffel Tower pictures usually mean that a girl loves to travel, she will expect to do that if we are together for any length of time, and odds are that she will be a high maintenance chick in other ways as well. That is my sense of what it means. What do you think of that analysis?

You know, Paris and the Eiffel Tower is a mainstream place to visit, so I personally wouldn't look it that way, but I may be wrong.

The thing that is a deal breaker for me is that they are looking to see what happens or that they are not looking for anything serious, but if it finds them, so be it. I have never used an online dating site, but I have seen profiles for them and stuff like that would be an instant deal breaker for me, to me that says "im looking for a hookup".

I want a relationship with a single person with no baggage and red flags. So we can have a family.

The only reason their ex left their kids with the guy is so he can man up and provide for his children and take responsibility for his life. Not use them in dating app pics just so he can get laid and date countless of women. Which is also why his ex left him.

Now, when I see a picture of the dad with his kids saying “my children are come first and are my world”. Okay that’s understandable, then in the back of my mind I question why is he single as these kids are toddlers? That once we message as to what each of us are looking for, their common response is: “ well, I’m not looking for anything serious right now. I just got out of a relationship, I’m just looking for friends and to date.“ This is a common answer only someone who intends on hookups and friends with benefits. That once I ask when their relationship ended, they say 3-5 months. To me that’s just recent and quick to date somebody and waste the other person time who is actually looking for a serious relationship.

So basically they just want sex.
