My boyfriend (now ex) told me he lost interest in me because I said blacks in America steal more?

Question

So I was discussing with my boyfriend (now ex) one day that I would work long hours in retail stores and that most often blacks would be the ones stealing, and stats show that black AMERICANS steal more. I’m not racist and don’t think anyone is superior than other based on the color of their skin. But he argued over it and said he lost interest because of this.

he now said thats one main reason he ended it with me? Is this a good reason?

Like you seem awfully interested in the statistics of Black theft, okay, but how about Black poverty? Why are Blacks such a large group of systemic poverty, HS dropouts, unemployed and other discriminatory statistics that show that they’re being forced to bear the sufferings of society? You’re willing to investigate that Blacks steal, but not why they steal. And your experience in retail probably lends that you’re going to be more suspicious of Black people, as racial profiling contributes to the high crime statistics. And as to why so many white people can get away with their crimes. So maybe research that.

Yes, if racism is something that is a big turn-off or pet peeve for him and you appeared to have that trait, I understand why he would lose interest in you because of it. Even if you aren't actually a racist, if he got that idea about you, than in his mind, that's what's most important. He is judging by what he heard you say, regardless of what the meaning was behind it.

Any reason is a good enough reason. But statistics are statistics. If we hear about a drive by in Chicago, most people will assume it is a young black man. If we hear about a school shooting, most will assume a young white man. There is nothing racist about it, because it is based upon statistical analysis. It becomes racist if people broad brush or prejudge a specific individual based upon those statistics.

In other words, if I hear about a school shooting and assume it was a white guy, that is normal. If I look at a random white kid and assume he's a school shooter, that is prejudice. Same dynamic with a black kid.

It's one thing to say, "I've noticed that quite a few Blacks believe that they are living in a systematic racist society. However, since there are over 30 million Blacks in the USA, there must be millions and millions who don't see it that way. But it's another thing to say, "Blacks say they live in a systematic society."

No his reasoning was poor what you say is true. I'm not a racist by any means but blacks do tend to steal and commit other crimes more often as specially in the city's. There not bad people but blacks tend to have lower income and are the majority of the homeless in the world and thus tend to break the law to get by so they can get food and so on. As a result of this they get cought up with drug dealers and the drugs themselves.

Stats don't show that they steal more. Just shows that they get "caught" more.
He doesn't need a "good" reason to end it with you. He just wasn't feeling you anymore. Move on and find someone you vibe with.

Criminals are more often black (true statement). Black people are more often criminals (true statement). People are criminals because they are black (racist lie/ false statement). People from poor single mother households are likely to grow up to be criminals (true statement). A lot of black Americans are in poor single mother households (true statement). There are factors at play independent of skin color, but unfortunately that is what people choose to look at.
