Guy ask if I was a virgin out the blue?

Back story: I’m in art class and a guy I kind of know just comes into my class room and sits at the table with me and my friend. I wouldn’t consider him my friend really if I saw him in the hall. We would say hi from time to time and that was all or if he was in a silly mood he would just call my name in a silly way or a cute tease if we had a class together. He was a class clown but serious when he needed to. I didn't really take him seriously so I didn't mind when he sat with us. I just thought he wanted to just come on and mess around and pass some time. I just kept drawing and talking to my friend. I talked to him and we joked around a little couple minutes past and he looked me in my eyes and he just asked if I was a virgin. I asked why and he said just because. I am at that age where I just don’t care what people think back then I would have lied to look cool but I said yes. He just nodded his head and grinded and we kept on talking but I wonder that that was about. Why did he ask me out of the blue? Does he like me?
