How to get a conversation going with a guy a year ahead of me?

Okay, so I'm pretty interested in this guy, but he's a grade ahead of me. I don't really know that much about him, but I've heard and seen that he is a very nice (and handsome) person. He's a friend to all and has a really cute laugh. I have a big crush on this kid. He's really cool and I can't help but smile everytime I see him. We have similar music taste as well, and he doesn't seem very confrontational. I only ever see him in the hallways. I should make my move soon since he's a senior. Only problem is, I'm extremely intimidated by the thought of striking up a conversation with him, I have no clue where his locker is, we have no classes together, and I have no senior friends to help me out. My friend thinks I should give him a compliment and take it slow until I can give him my discord or something, but I'm not even sure I'll be able to catch him while he's by himself. What do I do to get this kid's attention?

I agree with the others who have said that talking to him is the right way, but I also understand what you wrote that striking up a conversation is intimidating. You're right! It is! :) But, that's really the best way and he'll appreciate it. To your question of how do you get his attention, so options include smiling at him, making direct eye contact and holding it, or waving at him. Another option is find out what sports he does and go to that game or practice. He will absolutely notice and know that it's not a coincidence. There is one other trick that a girl could do that would make me notice her and make me putty in her hands: when you know he can see you, put your hair up in a pony tail. But, I'll end this where we began: slay the dragon of intimidation and go talk to him. Use your shared enjoyment of music: "hey, have you heard so and so's new song?"
