What hobbies do men like for a woman to have? Are my hobbies making me completely "nondateable"?

I must admit right away that I'm not very interesting or fun to most people. I'm not a huge fan of travelling, exercising or just straight up being a social butterfly.

Do you believe we've got to have some interesting universally liked hobbies to find a partner?
What are the hobbies (especially uncommon hobbies) that you like your partner to have?
And how much do you care about hobbies in the first place?

I don't think a guy who is in love with travelling and/or climbing could find me interesting in the first place!

• My hobbies are pretty much these:

baking (from time to time)
politics (I like to have an overview)
reading (short stories mostly)
gaming (I used to game a lot when I was younger, now I do it only occasionally)
movies (especially horror and movies from directors like Carpenter or Tarantino)
cars (not a pro but I enjoy watching races, Rallye for example, and I like to take car of my car and I enjoy car rides very much)
shopping (mostly online shopping, shopping clothes for my boyfriend or myself)
pets (we've got cats and horses, I love both, I love animals in general)

I won't lie, I'm a homebody, is that a turn off? I believe that there's nothing better than being cuddled up in bed/on a couch and enjoying a movie while eating cookies and later getting handsy with each other.

I'm just really simple, very physical and basic things make me happy... I don't need much else.

I'd only want to start going out a bit more, like a theatre or eating out at new or favorite restaurants/bistros. Plus, I have never tried bowling and I'm not the best at swimming, I want to work on that.

So at first I could only see your question, not the description. That made me think "awww, this poor girl... hobbies don't make someone less desirable."

So that's the answer, to the general question, asked by ANY random girl.

Then I read your description, learn a bit about you and your hobbies, and what kind of person you are (a homebody etc).

Are... you kidding?

You sound freaking great! You sound like a catch!

What exactly do you think... that guys... are going to find unattractive about ANYTHING you have as a hobby? I genuinely do not understand what you could possibly be worried might be unattractive. I would love to know actually, if you'd care to share. If not, that's totally cool (I'm just being nosey).

If I were 10 years younger, and came across you on a dating site, and you talked about yourself similar to the way you do here (your description of you and your hobbies)... You would be top of my list of girls I'd want to get to know better.

You come off as a a well-rounded, interesting, down-to-earth girl who isn't trying to pretend to be any way other than "how you really are". If that's not what guys find attractive, then I've been giving a lot of people, a lot of bad advice on here. (nah... I haven't... this is definitely what guys are looking for. At least what most decent guys are looking for)

Also, hobbies that aren't shared don't clash as much as you're thinking they do. For example, there was a period when I was younger, when several long-term girlfriends were all into dance. I mean like eating, breathing, and shitting dance. It was a hobby that was central to their lives. It had to be. They had some dance thing or other nearly every day.

I couldn't care less about dance. In fact I HATE dance. I don't get it, I never have. I never will. I certainly sat through way more dance competitions/shows etc than I ever would have otherwise sat through (which would have been zero). But you know... it wasn't that big of a deal. Dance was central to these girl's lives, and something I didn't enjoy. But it didn't cause any problems. It was just... part of who they were. And I liked who they were despite not being into dance.

Now, most of the time, I wasn't involved in their day-to-day dance goings-on. But... I would hear about: how nervous she was... hoping to be chosen for the 'solo' in whatever upcoming show. And I got to be happy, and disappointed along with them depending on how that turned out.

I could be the supportive boyfriend, through the ups and downs of them having that all-encompassing hobby... that I actively DON"T enjoy (aside from it's relation to them). It wasn't a big deal. It didn't get in the way of our relationship at all.

So, don't go looking to change your hobbies to make yourself more attractive. That's a bad idea on-it's-face. But it's a crazy idea coming from a girl with a well-rounded, interesting list of very normal and relatable hobbies and interests. You sound awesome.

You are selling yourself short, in the way you're assessing your own attractiveness. 🙂

What you want to communicate is your love home and hearth so you try

Gardening particularly bulbs, roses, azaleas etc
Macro Photography
Crocheting (if you enjoy this you should let it be known as it will very attractive to a guy who appreciates your homebodiness and offputting to one who doesn't.
Dressmaking (A lot of women start with dolls. And again if you enjoy this with no hint of embarrassment it will be like catnip to certain men)
Scrapbooking (This is so standard that it won't standout bit you might find like-minded friends)
Cross-stitch (same as above)
Decorative Crafting which is a wide range of skills and techniques to create unique accent piece or even furniture.
Soap making (a lot of alt-homemaker types are into bath bombs and other hardcore soaps)
Jigsaw Puzzles (Surprisingly OP for dating)

That would all depend on your clinginess, because if the guy doesn't like the same hobbies then he should have the freedom to do the hobbies he enjoys, with or without you so as long as you aren't in the way of what he enjoys then I wouldn't see a reason on how you like to spend your time will effect your relationship unless they despite these hobbies and you somehow force him to do them, other than that, there's no reason that your hobbies would effect the relationship or prevent you from having one, with things like travelling that would depend if he minds travelling alone and if you let him travel alone if he wants too.

Most of you hobbies seem simple and average but I don’t really see anything wrong with that though. And there’s nothing wrong with trying new things/hobbies either.

1# No I don’t think you need to have some interesting/unique or universally enjoyed hobby to have a partner.

Another thing to note is that hobbies I have that I find average or mundane you or someone else may find unique or interesting and the same applies to you and your hobbies.

2# I’m not really that partial about my partners hobbies so long as they don’t violate my morals n values. But I’m a very go with the flow kind of guy and I can usually either find enjoyment in my partners hobbies because they enjoy it or I can alter or twist it in a way that it’s fun for me.

3# they have hobbies, I have hobbies so that’s stuff we can either do on our own or do together or explore and try together. Pretty much my view on it.

I honestly like all your hobbies, especially since some, like gaming or baking, match mines or would be nice for me.

But overall, the best hobbies for a woman would be those that leave enough time to spend with your guy, or that you can share with him. If your hobbies take all your time, it's an issue.
