Some people do not care so much for looks as they do for what is inside that shell.
Also, a lot of men are afraid to say something as personal as "you are beautiful" because they feel that they give away too much in terms of emotions. Guys in general don't like to show that they can be emotional because they have the feeling that it makes them weak and vulnerable.
What you can do is perhaps to change the way you dress or put a different make up to change your appearance and the way he perceives you.
If nothing happens, then you will have to address that topic with him directly but don't expect an honest answer because you would be forcing him to say something that he is not ready to say by himself. Good luck.

It was 1970, actually. I was in 10th grade. I was guitar and vocals in a garage band. She was a neighbor of one of my friends and used to hang out when we were playing. She had been in one previous, short-lived relationship. That's when she got on the pill. There were what were called "free clinics" back then. I don't think kids needed parental permission to access contraception, advice or treatment. But she was very close to her parents, so maybe they did know. Lots of girls were on the pill.
I didn't know her age when we first started going together. She was as mature as I was. One day, I took a break from jamming and went outside. She came out, sat down next to me, and we started talking like friends. I was sort of naive when it came to girls at that point. She was really cool and pretty. We had a lot in common. Yeah, she had a crush on me.
So we started hanging out exclusively. I had a car and my friends and I were always going places and doing things, especially the beach. I was a surfer. So, she was my new girlfriend and almost always went a long.
We would kiss a lot. No fingering or anything. I was too shy and naive. One night, she invited me into the house trailer that her parents kept in their back yard. We had to be quiet and keep the lights off but there was some light coming in through the windows. Finally seeing and touching a naked woman (girl) was a dream come true. I was a virgin and she had had sex a few times with one previous boyfriend.
She was really good people. Years later, she married one of my best friends and they had two daughters. I remained friends with both of them for a long time but lost touch. We reconnected decades later and are now Facebook friends. She's a happy grandma.

Thanks, SueShe. I thought it was important to clear up any misperception. Things were a lot more liberal (not "Liberal") in the '70s. It was still the time of hippies, Woodstock, peace, love and freedom. I get the impression that society is way more up tight these days.
