there's no reason to tell him every time a guy hits on you. You a girl, so you just like the vast majority of others girls are going to get hit on.
Either you shutting the guys advances down and then there's no need to tell boyfriend or you're not and you won't tell him purposely.
Only case it would become necessary is if after you have shut the guy down, he continues

If you're worried that he may not handle it well, then you probably shouldn't tell him. If I were dating you, and guys were hitting on you, I'd definitely want you to let me know every time, but that's just me.
if he finds you attractive, he shouldn't be surprised when guys hit on you
now the question would be how receptive you are to being hit on by guys more attractive than your boyfriend
As long as you don't participate in the interaction anymore than saying no I have a boyfriend then you are fine.
Every guy understands that there will always be guys hitting on their girl. You would just be pointing out the obvious for unknown reasons
