Her quote: "I’m selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can’t handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don’t deserve me at my best."
Marilyn Monroe was a mentally ill person, she was an emotionally unstable schizophrenic and paranoid person with various addictions to alcohol and drugs. She had an insecure character that compensated with a strong seductiveness she was also a selfish and amoral person without any sense of shame, in addition to this she was unable to be alone and always looked for a man who would have to be her crutch, otherwise she had strong and repeated panic attacks.
In her life she has practically never been sincere, she has always played a part, the part of the ditzy blonde, the big problem is that she, having removed her mask, did not have a stable personality.
Various psychologists and psychiatrists have given the same analyzes of her mind, among them were Anna Freud, Marianne Kris and Ralph Greenson who all agreed in considering her a "paranoid schizophrenic, drug-alcohol addicted".If I would have dated such a person, not even dead.

Sounds high maintenace. And that's a dealbreaker.
Every person that I've ever known who has said/shared the saying "If you can’t handle me at my worst, then you don’t deserve me at my best" has been an absolute shit excuse for a person that had very little to offer at their very best.
At least she admits she makes mistakes and has flaws. It's the people who don't that I don't trust.

It's interesting about these diagnoses of Monroe's schizoaffective disorders done using facts from her life, but not from direct interaction WITH Monroe herself. Monday morning quarterbacking, if you ask me. I agree that she had some types of mental disorders, she seemed to be depressive, and used drugs that would lead to further depression: alcohol and barbiturates.
She had trouble maintaining relationships with men and was always seeking male approval, which supports the fact that she never had a relationship with a present father. Her birth was the result of an affair her mother had. She never knew the man nor had a father-substitute while she grew up.
After reading a Wikipedia description of her life, Marilyn's MOTHER, Gladys, was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is NOT INHERITABLE!
What Marilyn did suffer through was a laundry list of foster homes BECAUSE OF HER MOTHER'S CONDITION. After a breakdown, her mother was permanently institutionalized when Marilyn was 8 or 9. Marilyn became a ward of the state from then on. She was abused and sexually molested by foster parents shortly later, and lived in a dozen foster homes. She married at 16 to a 21 year old sailor/merchant mariner to get away from her situation. But her husband was as dull as dishwater.
While he was off to WWII, she worked in a factory and was photographed by a pro, did the nudie calender, and started modeling. From all of that, she ended up doing walk-ons and a few lines in some films. 1950 was her big start-up year and from then to 1956, she was box office gold. Her personal life, however, was tumultuous. By this time the sailor was long divorced, and she married two older celebrities: Joe DiMaggio, retired ballplayer, and Arthur MIller, playwright. My guess is these two were as dull as dishwater, too, but DiMaggio was abusive and controlling. Both marriages ended in divorce.
To alleviate anxiety and chronic insomnia, she used barbiturates, amphetamines, and alcohol, which exacerbated her problems, although she did not become severely addicted until 1956.
The bottom line is Monroe had an out of control upbringing and life that laid the foundation for most of her subsequent problems. She had endometriosis that caused her inability to remain pregnant and several miscarriages, though she professed that she wanted children. She became addicted to barbiturates and alcohol, which wasn't true when she made the former pronouncement when she was 26. She had low self-esteem and stage fright.
This was a potent soup stirring around in one human being, making her difficult to work with and love. And my supposition is, worst of all, she didn't love her life or herself. That's usually why someone ends up committing suicide.
I would absolutely date, court and worship a woman who said something like that, because I'm only interested in selfish, arrogant women who expect guys to kiss their asses.
I say take it at face value. Being a shitty person at a low doesn't constitute someone to be entitled to have a relationship, much less be worth one.
That quote may be famous, but it is sure as hell used as an exploit to escape accountability and an excuse to be an asshole.
Marilyn was obviously emotionally unstable because she killed herself. And based on what I've seen, anyone that says that, is basically saying they don't have the capacity to grow. Its no different than saying "That's just the way I am." Its never worth it to stick with anyone long term, man or woman, that has that mindset. They'll likely be fun, but they will become more trouble than they're worth. Unfortunately, that tends to be the nature of people that lack self awareness. They inevitably become their own worst enemy.
She hasn't been fucked by her pet dog though? As far as we know?
Also I am fairly certain that the statement she made applies to literally all humans, apart from, crucially, as Poppy points out, that she is self aware enough to acknowledge that she has faults.
"But if you can’t handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don’t deserve me at my best."
Fair enough. Bye. Not sure why this dumb line continues to live on in many women to this day. Meanwhile: "I'm abusive, loud, stubborn, I yell at waitresses and if you can't handle that then you don't deserve to ride in my lambo."
there's not a single thing in that quote that sells her to me. nothing in there that would convince me that she's a good partner for me.
i am assuming that she knows very well that she's high on the hot scale and that men already want her. so she doesn't need to make an argument for herself. She was a real role-model for women.
Isn't that the same way most people are? Sure, we can predict what the average person can do, but in reality, everyone is going to be out of control at times.
I would appreciate her honesty, but the moment she starts with "I'm selfish", I would walk out the door.
Since "love" is supposed to be about caring and "wanting to give", a person that starts with "I am selfish" simply wouldn't fit that requirement.Ha I always meant to ask this.. because I read that you shouldn’t trust a woman who quotes from Marilyn Monroe
Nothing wrong with that statement in my opinion. A lot of women like to think they're out of control or hard to handle, but in my experience, the ones who are TRULY out of control don't even know it, and if they did, they sure wouldn't warn you. Keep in mind too everybody's "worst" varies tremendously.
Whether you know it or not, whether it's said out loud or not, if you get into a lasting relationship, you've already signed up for somebody's worst and their best.
Marlynn Montoe never had an orgasm. In truth I would have dated her best years 16-30 but I wouldn't have settled down with her because she was too promiscuous as her first husband found out. I think a lot of her problems were to do with her inability to have kids.
Yeah she's the definition of "you don't stick your dick in crazy"
No. If she had of taken out the word selfish I would’ve dated her. I can’t deal with selfish people. I wouldn’t have cared about the other stuff she said.
All that cocaine she did made her face look permanently high 🤣😂😂
I have learned to listen to what women say and realize they always tell on themselves. If she jokes about hating men, being psycho, selfish, or anything like that... hard pass.
I'm the same. Selfish, impatient, insecure, and lots of other things too. :)
Obviously, they would if the girl looked like Marilyn Monroe in 1953.
Tough call… i like openness… but maybe above my abilities
