I mentioned a conversation that I had with a guy I'm open to date and my friends said I couldn't date him?

I had a conversation with a guy I am open to dating if he is interested. I am not in love with him but he is a nice guy and I am open to getting to know him better. I told my friends that it was a nice conversation but that I wasn't sure if there was more.

One of my friends said he was for another friend. This other friend always listed him as an option but never did anything with it. This other friend then told me that they always have a conversation about work. She is actively dating several guys and is open to dating anyone. She has also considered serious relationships with other guys, including his best friend. On a side note, their relationship ended badly. She's not planning on doing anything with it either.

My opinion is that you can't just "claim" a guy. But I feel weird now like I did something wrong by just considering that guy. Am I wrong to think this way?

Okay, if I understand this... you want to date someone, but one of your friends says he's sort of reserved for someone else. On top of that, she's collecting guys so that really no one can ever claim them now. Is that correct?

If that's the case, that's nonsense. If anyone who should be deciding anything, it's the guy himself, allowing himself to date whomever he wants to. If it happens to be you, then great.

If some friend gets upset by this, because she thinks "I saw him first", well too bad. That's not how it goes. Are you supposed to just shop around for someone else in another city because she's put reserved signs on all the men where you are? I've never heard of anything so juvenile.

Date whoever you want! If he's into you also, then it's one less guy she has to choose from.

You wrote a lot but luckily I don't have to read it all, since the sheer fact that you said you are "open to dating him", it means that you are not that into him. Rather than find someone you are "open to dating", find someone that you will write I really really really want to date him!
