What is the best way to tell your partner your real age?

I know my relationship defines the word different in many ways, but this is a relationship that I truly value. With that being said, my partner, or the person I’ve been talking to for the last 9 months, lied to me about their age. They are not aware that I know. They lied to me about being younger than what they are. Making our age gap bigger. When I first met him I wasn’t aware but I do not mind, but when we first started talking I told him I was 18 for obvious reasons despite both of our home states age or consent is 16.

Now that I am legally 18 I don’t want to continue with this lie as things are becoming more serious. This is a person I see a future with, but not if I continue with this lie. It was a selfish decision that I regret but I grew up in an environment where age didn’t matter and I forgot that it did.

I think you should explain it to him just like you did here. I doubt if he will care, especially since he, himself, lied about his own age. Although you don't have to tell him that you know he lied. See if he admits it himself.

The truth should bring you closer together in your relationship. Maybe you'll even laugh about it when you find out that you both lied. After all, it's a rather trivial matter. But a lie is still a lie. Just promise never to lie to each other again.

Be honest but with that he might not be able to trust you because you lied in the first place
