I have an interesting question where I need honesty. Would you read a good book where the author wrote in first person as the opposite gender?

For example, a male author writing in first person as a female in his book. Is it strange to you?
Would you assume it was a bad book because how could he understand the experience of a female or what it is like to live as the opposite gender?
